THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the
Maintenance Associate
is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs for the hotel, ensuring that the rooms and property are maintained in the best possible condition with the least possible inconvenience to guests, while ensuring the highest level of guest satisfaction in accordance with the Marriott Residence Inn brand standards.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance and repair calls in the hotel and guest rooms, providing exceptional service to guests and other hotel associates.
Assist guests with in-room technologies such as telephones, voice mail, television and games, lap top hook-ups.
Perform general building maintenance repairs
Check and monitor mechanical systems such as boilers, water, sewage and fire systems.
Maintain entire hotel and surrounding areas in perfect working condition.
Respond to all fire emergencies and follow the instructions contained in the hotel's fire safety plan.
Maintain a clean and safe working area, ensuring all power tools are in safe working condition and immediately report unsafe equipment.
Maintain daily log of work completed.
Carry out Preventative Maintenance functions per Marriott standards and record information accordingly.
Work with the Housekeeping and Guest Services departments regarding the status of rooms, guest requests, and upkeep and repair issues.
Ensure adherence to the hotel's policy regarding security of bedrooms and keys.
Work and communicate in a professional and ethical manner with colleagues assisting where necessary to develop team spirit and to achieve standards of work and guest care as required by hotel policy and brand standards.
Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and complete safety training and certifications. Provide support per the Emergency Response Plan as directed.
Participate in committees, focus group meetings and departmental meetings.
Maintain regular attendance in compliance with company standards, according to the needs of the hotel.
Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and nametag when working.
Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by senior managers.
THE SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPERIENCE YOU HAVE:
Minimum of one year building operators experience.
5th Class Power Engineering Certificate recognized by ABSA preferred.
Technical or journeyman experience an asset.
Knowledgeable in HVAC.
1 year experience in using Building Management Systems.
Carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance trades work experience.
Hospitality work experience an asset and highly desired.
Excellent verbal communication skills (additional spoken languages an asset).
Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
Using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing and electrical work.
Solid organizational, interpersonal and administration skills.
Ability to work within and meet deadlines with proven ability to multi-task.
Demonstrated customer service skills and a genuine desire to exceed guest expectations.
Must be professional in appearance and demeanour.
Must be health & safety conscious with proven track record.
Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
First Aid certification an asset.
Must have the ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must have an ability to work rotating shifts with a variety of days and times, including weekends, and public holidays.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information and protect company assets.
