The Lax Kw'alaams Band is seeking an experienced and proactive Maintenance & Asset Manager to oversee the maintenance and asset management of all equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will develop and implement preventative maintenance plans, supervise seasonal and full-time maintenance staff, and ensure safe and efficient operations of all assets and buildings. This is a leadership position that supports the operational needs of the Band through strong planning, technical expertise, and team coordination.

Responsibilities:


Asset Management:

Maintain a comprehensive asset management plan, including inventory control, condition assessments, and lifecycle tracking. Monitor asset performance and make recommendations for repairs, upgrades, or replacements. Track and document all maintenance activities using a computerized system.
Equipment & Facility Maintenance:

Oversee routine and emergency maintenance of machinery, tools, vehicles, and facilities. Implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life. Coordinate and perform diagnostic checks and timely repairs Ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
Staff Management:

Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise full-time and seasonal maintenance staff. Ensure seasonal workers are trained in safety procedures, equipment use, and job responsibilities. Monitor performance and provide support, coaching, and direction as needed. Daily tailgate meetings to develop workplans and delegate tasks.
Budget & Reporting:

Assist with the development and management of the maintenance budget. Maintain accurate records of maintenance costs and operational metrics. Liaise with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to source equipment and manage service contracts.
Competencies:

Strong technical knowledge of facility systems, mechanical/electrical equipment, and maintenance procedures. Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS) or asset management software. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and meet deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Office and common maintenance tools and equipment. You may have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment. You will have to complete several tasks and responsibilities at one time and must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations as they arise.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:



Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, and promote a culture of safety throughout the department. In collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Committee, conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and ensure staff are trained in safe work practices and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Act as a safety leader by identifying risks, implementing controls, and participating in health and safety meetings and incident investigations. Support other operational or emergency tasks as assigned. Contribute to a safe and positive team environment.

Qualifications:


Education

Diploma, trade certification, or relevant post-secondary education in facilities management, mechanical systems, or related field. A combination of experience and certification may be considered. All managers are required to have formal supervision training or be willing to complete a Supervisor's Certificate Program paid for by the employer, as a condition of employment.
Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance management or a related field. Experience managing seasonal or temporary workers is an asset.

Classification/Pay Scale:



Non-unionized position, management. Benefits and Pension Plan. $95,000 - $110,000 per year
