Logistics Lead

The Logistics Lead oversees the team responsible for planning and execution of timely and cost-effective movement of international and domestic freight and related customs formalities in support of activities at Seaspan Shipyards. The position is responsible for ensuring contract compliance for all import and export activities, including integrity of data declared to Government Agencies. The Logistics Lead will handle compliance reviews and ensure proper and timely reporting is made to Government Agencies and ensure Seaspan participates in Government initiatives to streamline Seaspan\xe2\x80\x99s import processes. The position plays a pivotal role in planning, implementing and controlling Logistics operations for Seaspan Shipyards from point of origin through final delivery at destination. This includes working directly with representatives of Seaspan\xe2\x80\x99s global supply base. The Logistics Lead will support direct reports to grow exciting careers at Seaspan by encouraging their participation in Seaspan career development programs and initiatives, as well as through timely performance evaluations. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do
  • Establish and implement the logistics strategy for Seaspan Shipyards which compliments the overall Supply Chain Strategy for the organization.
  • Own the Logistics team which controls global movement of goods and related customs formalities from shipment origin to destination.
  • Develop Logistics KPI\xe2\x80\x99s and regularly report on results to identify areas of improvement.
  • Establish budgets and report results for ongoing operations such as freight movement and specialized equipment needs.
  • Participate in establishing annual strategic goals for the logistics team and conduct periodic reviews.
  • Coach, develop, and support the logistics team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Monitor freight rates and freight damage claims and report any trends.
  • Select and manage carriers to ensure effective execution of global freight movement.
  • Handle any raised issues with carriers.
  • Liaise with multiple collaborators at all three Shipyards to ensure streamlined two-way communication, issue resolution and process improvements.
  • Ensure the team is up to date on all system and process changes as well as SOPs.
  • Lead change and improvements to processes related to freight management and customs compliance.
  • Responsible for planning staffing based on workload forecasts and collaborate with HR in hiring of new employees.
  • Ensure compliance with Customs and Controlled Goods legislation and guide Seaspan through changes in the international logistics regulatory environment.
  • Provide training and subject expert advice to internal collaborator groups.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring
  • Minimum of 10 years demonstrated international and domestic custom and logistics experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience managing a team of logistics professionals.
  • University degree or diploma in Supply Chain Logistics.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), CITT-Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP) designation or equivalent is an asset.
  • Knowledge and background in Supply Chain and Logistics which supports a manufacturing environment preferably in a shipyard environment.
  • Knowledge of Customs Programs such as C-TPAT/ PIP programs, trade agreements and Customs initiatives which impact Seaspan compliance.
  • Thorough knowledge of Controlled Goods regulations and applicability to Seaspan\xe2\x80\x99s responsibilities for movement of materials and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of freight management and INCOTERMS.
  • Knowledge of all freight modes including Large Project Cargo, Truck Load, Ocean and Air International and Domestic Freight.
  • Previous use of tier 1 MRP and ERP software applications for purchasing and warehousing; experience with IFS and/or JD Edwards Enterprise One applications would be an asset.
  • Demonstration of exemplary business ethics, integrity and honesty in all situations.
  • Ability to professionally interact with senior management, customers and suppliers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced level digital literacy including Microsoft Office suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Visio).
  • Ability to work effectively under highly demanding schedules with limited direction and prioritize work.
  • Strong customer service, communication, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build sound working relationships with coworkers and external contacts.
