Litigation Law Clerk :



Our firm has an opening for a

Litigation Law Clerk

with a focus on corporate and commercial litigation, debt enforcement, bankruptcy and insolvency, restructuring and regulatory litigation.

We are seeking a proactive, results-driven professional who anticipates needs, takes initiative, and keeps matters moving efficiently. The ideal candidate is resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities independently, demonstrating sound judgment and initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Assist lawyer with all aspects of litigation files, including corporate/commercial, debt enforcement, regulatory and insolvency matters. Conduct due diligence searches and prepare security review memoranda. Draft, prepare, and manage legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, motion records, trial briefs, and correspondence. Management of debt enforcement files, including drafting of minutes of settlement and forbearance agreements. Coordinate and manage all stages of litigation, including document production, undertakings, discoveries, and court filings. Track undertakings, client deadlines, and court schedules to ensure all timelines are met. Organize and maintain electronic files in accordance with firm protocols. Liaise with clients, experts, opposing counsel, court staff, and other external parties with professionalism and discretion. Maintain and update databases and document management systems to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Record dockets in a timely manner following firm procedures. Proactively identify issues, recommend solutions, and ensure matters progress efficiently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:



Minimum 5+ years' experience as a Litigation Law Clerk working in bankruptcy and insolvency, restructuring, regulatory, and corporate litigation. Experience in gaming would be considered an asset. Completion of Law Clerk program recognized by the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO). A member in good standing with ILCO. In depth knowledge of Casecenter and proficiency in Teraview and Corporate Registry. In depth knowledge and understanding of the rules of civil procedure in Ontario (Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Court of Appeal), the Federal Court and the Supreme Court, and the ability to determine rules and procedures of tribunals or courts in other jurisdictions. Detail-oriented, hardworking, and self-motivated with exceptional administrative, organizational, and time-management skills. Strong written, verbal, research, and problem-solving abilities. Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Microsoft 365 (OneDrive, OneNote, Teams), and PDF programs, with the ability to leverage technology and shortcuts to improve efficiency and accuracy in document management. Experience with legal software, specifically litigation software (i.e. ACL), document management systems (i.e. NetDocs), and legal accounting software (i.e. Aderant). Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from lawyers and possesses a team player attitude. Professional demeanor with the ability to interact and effectively communicate with individuals at all levels. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset. Ability to manage and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines.
