RESPONSIBILITIES
Maximizes the cost value proposition of high-end laboratory instrumentation by analyzing direct support services, vendor delivered services, and part management in relation to the life cycle cost of the instrument portfolio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs advanced-level, scheduled and unscheduled troubleshooting/services on specialty equipment, instruments, and systems specific to the pharmaceutical research & development industry.
Possesses the in-depth technical knowledge required for performing complex, analytical service procedures, instrument qualifications, and calibration tasks.
Assists the supervisor in monitoring and scheduling operations of technicians responsible for installing, calibrating, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical instrumentation according to client specifications.
Develops methods and procedures pertaining to service and calibration of specialized instrumentation.
Monitors instrument and part reliability; makes alternate service, supplier and parts recommendations.
Provides manager and client guidance regarding platform reliability and replacement, based on LCAM and RCM principles.
Organizes work processes and leads project assignments for instrumentation/calibration staff in order to fulfill contractual obligations to the client.
Reinstalls, tests, evaluates, calibrates, and maintains instruments or devices upon completion of repairs.
Documents daily records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed within approved guidelines and procedures.
Communicates with customer staff and outside contractors in the calibration, repair, and operation of equipment, as necessary. Coordinates with outside contractors regarding repairs covered by maintenance agreements.
Provides detailed technical training and orientation to staff and colleagues on specialized instrumentation or techniques.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May coordinate and assign tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Bachelor\'s degree preferred. Minimum of two years of related experience and/or training. Associates degree preferred in scientific field of study preferred or equivalent related work experience.
Seven years of experience in instrumentation and control or installing, calibrating, maintaining and repairing equipment or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in pharmaceutical research and development industry including the making of chemical standards using appropriate techniques for weighing, pipetting, mixing, diluting, and verifying concentrations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.
FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE
Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Experience with Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite, and Online Help.
Requires specialist knowledge, training, and experience related to analytical instrumentation to include selected technique groups such as HPLC, GC, Liquid Handling, Automation, Optical Systems, Biology and Chemistry Analyzers.
