JOB SUMMARY:



The Lieutenant, reporting to the Captain, and Chief Officers, is an entry-level leadership role responsible for supporting fire and rescue operations, equipment readiness, and daily supervision of the crew. This position assists with emergency response, training, fire prevention, and public education, while promoting teamwork and safety in all activities. As the first level of supervision, the Lieutenant provides leadership alongside the Captain and assumes supervisory duties in their absence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Emergency Response and Incident Management - respond to emergency scenes and provide leadership as directed or under the direction of a senior leader, supporting safe and effective resolution of incidents. Assist in operations including structural fire suppression, vehicle rescue, emergency medical services, technical rescue (structural, confined space, backcountry/slope, and ice), hazardous materials response, and wildland/urban interface fire suppression. Demonstrate and promote safe work practices during emergency and non-emergency operations. Equipment, Apparatus and Safety - ensure completion of pre-response, response, and post-incident apparatus and equipment inspections in alignment with Standard Operating Guidelines and fire service best practices. Community Engagement and Education - provide front-counter service and interact professionally with the public at the Firehall. Support and participate in fire prevention initiatives, school and public education programs, and the Home Inspection Program. Training, Leadership and Team Development - assist the Captain in delivering firefighter training; and in the Captain's absence, provide instruction and guidance to meet departmental goals. Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a respectful environment in both emergency and non-emergency settings. Contribute to a positive workplace culture, including mentoring programs that support training and career advancement. Administration and Organizational Support - complete administrative tasks to document incidents, training, and daily activities. Contribute to achieving team objectives established by the Tsuut'ina Nation Chief and Council, senior administration, Fire Chief, department, and work unit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:



Desired Certifications, Knowledge and Skills:
o High School Diploma

o NFPA 1001 Level II

o NFPA 1002 Pump Operator / Aerial Apparatus Operator

o NFPA 1021 Level I

o Standard First Aid, CPR Level "C" and AED certification.

o Valid Level "C" Health Care Provider (HCP) CPR certification.

o Minimum of two (2) years of Fire Rescue Service experience as a Firefighter.

Personal Attributes:
o Ability to operate computers and standard software programs.

o Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

General Employment Requirements:
o Alberta Class 3 (or higher) Driver's License with Air Brake "Q" endorsement.

o Firefighter Physical Capability Test.

o Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.

o Oath of Confidentiality.
