A global freight Forwarding company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented
Licensed Customs Broker
to start a brokage division in Mississauga, ON. The ideal candidate will have a
minimum of 5 years of industry experience
, hold a valid
Canadian Customs Broker License (CBSA)
, and possess in-depth knowledge of applying for the Canada Brokerage corporate permit. This role requires strong leadership, compliance expertise, and a proactive approach to navigating CBSA regulations and customs procedures.
Licensed Customs Broker
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the customs clearance process for imports and exports in compliance with CBSA regulations
Prepare, verify, and process customs documentation for all modes of transportation (air, ocean, ground)
Act as the main liaison with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and other government agencies
Lead and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for clients and company operations
Assist in the
application process for the Canada Brokerage corporate permit
, ensuring timely and accurate submission
Provide expert advice on customs-related matters, tariff classifications, valuation, origin, and free trade agreements (e.g., CUSMA/USMCA)
Maintain and update internal systems and client databases in accordance with compliance standards
Train and mentor junior customs staff on best practices and regulatory changes
Handle audits, appeals, and customs rulings when required
Other duties as assigned
Licensed Customs Broker
Qualifications:
Licensed Customs Broker designation
issued by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)
Minimum of 5 years
of relevant experience in customs brokerage and regulatory compliance
Proven experience in
applying for and managing Canada Brokerage corporate permits
Strong knowledge of CBSA regulations, HS Tariff Classification, and OGD requirements
Proficient in customs software such as CCS, ACROSS, and CADEX
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Experience working in a fast-paced logistics or freight forwarding environment is an asset
Knowledge of ACI, eManifest, and other CBSA electronic systems
Familiarity with customs audits and AMPS penalties
Membership in CIFFA or CSCB is considered an advantage
