Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Librarian, the incumbent will provide general assistance to library patrons, will be responsible for stack and collection maintenance; all circulation functions; keeping current with circulation procedures and guidelines; selected acquisition duties; maintaining various library records and statistics. Work will be done in a highly automated environment. In the absence of the librarian, the library technician will be responsible for the opening and closing of the library, and providing general library supervision.

This is a part time postion at 55% FTE and the hiring rate will be pro-rated to relfect the 55% FTE.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing detailed information to users regarding library rules, guidelines and procedures
  • Searching catalogue records for material availability
  • Retrieving, compiling and filing borrowing and lending requests
  • Coordinating inter-library loans and deliveries
  • Verifying that course materials are available for loan
  • Directing the activities of casual staff
Essential Qualifications:
  • College Diploma (2 years) in a related field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years recent and relevant experience in a library environment, participating in circulation activities, administering loans and providing general library operations support.
  • Experience maintaining library records and statistics, and generating reports.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, email, databases, and Ex-Libris ALMA
  • Familiarity with Library of Congress classification system
  • Familiarity with online circulation and resource sharing systems (e.g. Ex-Libris ALMA).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attentional to detail
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Ability to lift boxes of books, journals, etc. (up to 10 kg).
  • Flexibility in workingtime, may be required to work until 6:00 pm.
