Job opportunity: Part Time Library Assistant, Massey branch Do you have a passion for delivering excellent customer service and public libraries? If so, why not come and join the team at Sables-Spanish Rivers Public Library - ssrpl.ca - to provide effective and efficient library service to our wonderful patrons, from the Massey branch? The anticipated schedule will rotate every two weeks and the hours of work will be: Week One: Wednesday 5.30-8.30pm, Thursday 10am-5pm, Friday 10am-5pm Week Two: Wednesday 5.30-8.30pm, Friday 10am-5pm, Saturday 10am - 5pm The hourly rate for this position, which ranges from $17 - $18 per hour, is currently under review. As a Library Assistant at SSRPL you will:
  • Deliver customer service excellence at all times
  • Open and close library according to SSRPL procedures
  • Check in library materials and transfer materials to carts for shelving
  • Sort, shelve and shelf-read library material; organize and maintain shelves in proper sequence to ensure accuracy and accessibility to materials
  • Generate, pull and process collection maintenance lists such as holds request list, missing and lost lists
  • Ensure effective maintenance of the collection by identifying damaged and well used materials
  • Effectively merchandise the collections
  • Answer customer queries, seeking help when necessary
  • Understand and promote SSRPL resources, programmes and services
  • Plan and deliver programmes of maximum interest in collaboration with the SSRPL staff
  • Perform general tidy-up and maintenance of branch; clean public computers and replenish supplies
  • Develop new skills and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Maintain regular and ongoing communication with other members of the SSRPL team, especially the Chief Librarian
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of SSRPL\xe2\x80\x99s policies and Health & Safety Programme
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Handle the physical requirements of the job include lifting library materials, reaching to place materials on shelves, pushing carts, and frequent standing, walking and bending
Our ideal candidate possesses:
  • Secondary school diploma with a minimum of 1 year related work experience in a customer service environment,
  • Experience with an ILS, Microsoft Office Suite and other library related technologies would be considered a definite asset
