Currently, the Vancouver Group of the Legal Services Branch is looking to add one full-time, permanent Legal Counsel (LC 2/3) to the team of solicitors who provide a broad range of legal services to the Liquor Distribution Branch (?LDB?) on a multitude of issues related to and arising from the business of the distribution and retail of liquor and non-medical cannabis in the province. The successful candidate will be required to provide technical and strategic legal advice to the LDB on corporate and commercial matters, matters of policy and regulation, and should expect to be required to undertake a significant amount of drafting and contractual interpretation. The position will be based in the downtown Vancouver offices of the Legal Services Branch.

Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Education and Experience:

  • Must be a member in good standing or immediate eligibility for membership in the Law Society of British Columbia;
  • Level (LC 2/3) dependent on years of call with a minimum of six or more years of call to the bar in a Canadian jurisdiction;
  • Recent experience negotiating, drafting and interpreting contracts and agreements;
  • A broad range of corporate-commercial legal experience and
Have the following skills and abilities:
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • excellent independent judgment and decision-making skills;
  • strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines;
  • strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to their work; and
  • the ability to work effectively with others and as part of a legal team.
Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Significant drafting experience customizing templates, bespoke drafting of complex and technical agreements and terms and conditions;
  • General procurement knowledge and experience;
  • Knowledge and experience dealing with legal issues associated with retail distribution;
  • Specific experience dealing with legal issues associated with acquisition and management of information technology hardware, software and services;
  • Experience identifying legal issues in the areas of corporate law, commercial transactions, finance, or commercial leasing;
  • Extensive experience drafting legal opinions;
  • Experience briefing senior executives/clients on strategic legal matters.
