ABOUT THE ROLEReporting to Manager, Legal Services you will be a key member to the Legal Services team responsible for to provide administrative and litigation support to the department and legal counsel. This position requires a self-starter who is able to work effectively within a team environment, as well as independently.WHAT YOU\xe2\x80\x99LL DO / KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPreparation of Documents:
  • Assist in the preparation of all documents i.e. draft, type and/or format letters, memoranda, statements of claim, statements of defence, facta, motion records, orders, etc.
  • Research and gather evidence for Court cases.
Litigation:
  • Prepare legal documents for the Court and for service. Ensure documents satisfy all legal requirements under the Rules i.e. proper formatting, sufficient copies, all necessary fees paid, affidavits sworn, etc.
  • Arrange and co-ordinate service of documents with process servers, bailiffs, sheriffs, etc.
  • Track and monitor all Court due dates, filing dates, hearings, etc.
  • Advise department staff of due dates with the Courts
  • Liaise with the Courts on a regular basis regarding status of cases, dates of motions, irregularities in filing, etc.
Communication:
  • Handle and circulate internal and external communications addressed to the Legal Department; i.e. incoming mail, faxes, letters, telephone calls, etc.
  • Handle and manage queries from internal and external clients
  • Provide instructions to process servers, bailiffs, sheriffs, title searches on various services, execution and search issues
Administration:
  • Overview department filing system
  • Prepare and/or revise statements of account
  • Ensure invoices are coded, signed, copied and sent to Finance
  • Maintain the daily reminder system and distribute daily
  • Maintain office supplies
  • Maintain department\xe2\x80\x99s calendar/schedule and meetings
  • Arrange and book travel arrangements for the department
  • Perform other duties as required
WHAT YOU WILL BRING / QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Legal Assistant/Law Clerk Diploma
  • Knowledge of \xe2\x80\x93 Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Epicor, etc.
  • Complete familiarity with legal terminology
  • Basic knowledge of Ontario Court Practice and the Federal Courts Rules
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and a good understanding of the music industry
