- Legal Advocate (Quasi-Criminal Defence & Small Claims Litigation)Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled
Legal Advocate
to join our team, with a primary focus on
quasi-criminal defence
(provincial offences, regulatory matters, and traffic safety violations) and
civil litigation in Small Claims Court
. The successful candidate will provide direct representation to clients, manage case files from intake to resolution, and ensure high-quality advocacy in both courtroom and negotiation settings.
Key Responsibilities
Client Representation
Appear before Provincial Court and administrative tribunals on quasi-criminal and regulatory matters (e.g., traffic offences, summary conviction proceedings).
Represent clients in Small Claims Court up to the statutory monetary limit.
Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, applications, and written submissions.
Case Management
Manage a caseload of quasi-criminal and small claims files, ensuring deadlines and procedural rules are met.
Gather evidence, prepare disclosure requests, and evaluate case strategy.
Negotiate with Crown prosecutors, opposing counsel, and self-represented parties to achieve favourable outcomes.
Advocacy & Legal Strategy
Develop effective courtroom strategies for trials, cross-examinations, and contested hearings.
Apply relevant statutes, regulations, and precedents to advance client interests.
Identify Charter or procedural issues and bring appropriate motions when necessary.
Client Relations & Communication
Provide clear, practical, and timely legal advice tailored to client objectives.
Maintain regular communication to update clients on case progress.
Uphold professional standards of confidentiality, integrity, and client service.
Qualifications
Diploma, certificate, or degree in law/legal studies, paralegal training, or equivalent professional experience in advocacy.
Strong knowledge of
provincial regulatory offences
, the
Traffic Safety Act
,
Summary Offences Procedure Act
, and
Small Claims Court rules and procedures
.
Prior experience conducting trials, hearings, or negotiations is highly valued.
Excellent oral advocacy, research, and legal writing skills.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and maintain professionalism in high-pressure environments.

Employment Details
