Applications are invited for a full-time position of Lecturer and Coordinator, Office of Experiential Education (OEE), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UBC, for an initial term of one year, with the possibility of renewal on an annualized basis. The desired start date for this position is July 1st, 2023.
The successful applicant will primarily work with and report to the Director, OEE, to coordinate Community Service Learning (CSL) in the Entry-to-Practice PharmD (E2P PharmD) program and the practicum and research experiential courses in the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPSc) program; sustain and build placement capacity for experiential education; support students experiencing challenges during OEE courses; and conduct scholarship in experiential education.
Background
CSL is a pedagogical approach in which students apply their academic learning while working in partnership with community-based partners to address community-identified priorities. CSL is a type of experiential education where students will have the opportunity to learn about broader social issues through serving the community in which they work and live. CSL is different from volunteering as the student receives meaningful instruction and reflection to enrich their learning experience. The CSL experience serves to help students build the foundation to become more engaged and aware when delivering care to patients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Contribute to the coordination and ongoing refinement of practicum courses within the E2P PharmD and BPSc programs
Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the CSL course delivery
Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the BPSc experiential courses delivery
Explore and develop new opportunities to collaborate with community partners, practice educators and industrial partners
Ensure course materials and activities are reflective of current and future pharmacy practice and guidelines and actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences
Apply best practices and continuous quality improvement for course development and delivery
Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one\xe2\x80\x99s own.
Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one\xe2\x80\x99s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Serve as a liaison to experiential sites in matters pertaining to student placements
Participate in student learning activities and progress, providing feedback to students and other stakeholders as necessary
Contribute to the design and delivery of experiential partner training, development and recognition programs
Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students
Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement
Supervise/co-supervise graduate or undergraduate students for any project or course-related work
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff and other professionals
Increase the profile of the Faculty and OEE within the pharmacy community
Pursue scholarship and research activities in experiential education or service learning
Perform other related functions as required by the Director, Office of Experiential Education
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the academic life and teach/supervise learners in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. They will be an innovative teacher who will integrate technologies and new approaches to learning into our curriculum. The successful individual should possess exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, be able to work effectively and contribute within a team environment, and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Preference will be given to an individual with current and active experience in precepting, coaching and mentoring students and those that operate from a solid understanding of community service learning.
Applicants must have a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Pharmacy or a PharmD. and must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia. Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience and is subject to final budgetary approval.
