The Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications for a Learning Community Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. This is a leadership position focusing on the development, maintenance and continuous quality improvement of a student-centred learning community.



SPECIFIC

RESPONSIBILITIES

:



PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Plans strategically to develop and maintain optimal learning community for BSN program. This includes but is not limited to student recruitment, orientation, retention, and engagement strategies, and faculty orientation, mentorship and development activities Assesses the student learning experience in the BSN program in alignment with Douglas College collective agreements, policies, procedures, and strategic plan Plans for and recommends to BSN Director of Nursing capital and operational budgets for activities and materials related to learning community maintenance and development Coordinates planning activities with other BSN Coordinators, Health Science Coordinators, BSN Faculty, and other internal and external stakeholders as relevant and required Identifies and plans incorporation of emerging trends in best practices related to learning community development Plans strategically the development and implementation of standards and processes for learning community development on an annual basis incorporating planning for an ongoing review process Develops and coordinates policies, procedures, and practices related to learning community development including planning for required internal and external approvals processes Plans tracking mechanisms to ensure that effective ongoing maintenance of learning community development including identification and planning to assist in the development of at risk students Identifies, screens, communicates and provides resources to Health Sciences and BSN leadership, BSN faculty, Health Science and Program Coordinators, and Internal/External Stakeholders as appropriate, related to learning community development and excellence and maintenance Participates in the development of scholarly and evaluation activities related to learning community development with an emphasis on teaching and learning Completes all planning and development responsibilities in a timely and effective manner



OPERATIONS AND LIAISON

Operationalizes and implements activities related to the recruitment, retention, progression and engagement of BSN program students (marketing, information sessions and materials, open house, external stakeholder liaison, admission, progression and engagement activities) Operationalizes and implements new BSN faculty orientation, mentorship, and ongoing development sessions specific to BSN faculty Completes all operational and liaison responsibilities in a timely and effective manner Provides and develops innovative solutions related to learning community development in alignment with strategic priorities Develops and recommends solutions related to educational experience issues within positional scope, refers all other educational matters outside of scope to appropriate resource Participates in external educational activities with identified external stakeholders as appropriate to role Participates in special projects and functions where expertise in simulation and/or lab education is required Develops, operationalizes, and implements relevant policies, procedures and processes related to recruitment, retention, progression, and student engagement including obtaining necessary college or departmental approvals when required Participates in inter-department/interprofessional activities and committees as required, in alignment with departmental priorities Participates in and takes the lead relative to learning community components on all activities related to program recognition, approvals, and accreditation Implements and incorporates best practices related to learning community development and maintenance Completes activities related to tracking mechanisms ensuring that all learning community processes related to policy, procedure, and/or legislation are completed in a timely manner Communicates and collaborates with all relevant internal / external stakeholders on matters related to learning community development and maintenance Reviews and revises written materials related to learning community maintenance or development as needed Participates in scholarly/evaluation activities related to learning community development with an emphasis on teaching and learning process Meets all internal and external deadlines as required Participate in special projects as required Provides mutual relief and assistance (during vacations and approved leaves) for BSN department operational and liaison activities as required



EVALUATION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

Develops quality assurance procedures related to learning community outcomes ensuring that implemented activities met planned outcomes. Develops and maintains documentation related to planned intended outcomes Ensures a systematic review and revision of plans based evaluation of plan against intended outcomes with an emphasis on student centered and engagement implementation priorities Completes all evaluation and quality assurance processes and procedures in a timely and effective manner Participates in departmental, college, and external activities (including professional development) related to quality assurance in alignment with learning community and BSN Department program priorities

QUALIFICATIONS

Current licensure with BCCNM Master's degree in Nursing or a related field (PhD in Nursing preferred) Minimum of five (5) years nursing practice experience Recent teaching experience in nursing education Experience in curriculum development and evaluation an asset Effective interpersonal skills, initiative and creativity Self-directed, strong work ethic, and excellent writing ability Ability to collaborate and contribute effectively to team activities Evidence of scholarship (e.g. research, publishing, conference presentations, professional committee involvement, community service) Evidence of ongoing professional development (e.g. attendance at conferences, course work, in-services) Satisfactory current references Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively apply relevant educational and administrative policies and collective agreement provisions if required Demonstrated ability to plan, operationalize, and evaluate evidence based best practices in maintenance and development of a strong student centered learning community Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and contribute effectively to a professional team and demonstrate excellent conflict management and resolution skills Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Demonstrated ability to apply best practices including scholarship activities related to learning community development Demonstrated ability to develop solutions oriented approaches to complex situations. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a timely and effective manner




Additional Information


The Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Learning Community Coordinator for the department of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This position takes effect September 1, 2025 for an initial one year term with the possibility of extension. This role has seven (7) sections of time release available for the 2025-2026 academic year.



The primary place of work is the Coquitlam Campus.
