The Opportunity

Big Cove YMCA Camp is a residential summer camp for children aged 6\xe2\x80\x9316 located in Sutherlands River, Nova Scotia. Big Cove is the oldest residential camp in Canada, founded by the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth in 1889. At camp, we believe that our exciting programs and dedicated staff are truly the pinnacle of the Big Cove Camp experience.

Our staff are not only leaders but friends, teachers and role models to all of our campers. Camp staff members are a dedicated group of responsible young adults carefully selected for their character, maturity, skills and sincere interest in the growth and development of youth.

Responsibilities

The Leadership Manager is responsible for the overall coordination of the Leadership Program at Big Cove. They oversee the Leader 1, Leader 2 teams and the 2 week Leadership programs throughout the summer. This includes scheduling, running training sessions, supporting leadership staff, scheduling leadership time off, and other areas relating to the leadership program. They will work closely with the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director and Camper Care Manager in ensuring appropriate training is being delivered to properly prepare leadership campers for positions on staff in the future. The Leadership Manager may need to assist the program through leading leadership trips and supporting camp in other areas while groups are on trip. The Leadership Manager is required to live on site for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications & Skills

• Must be 21 years of age by December 31, 2023
• A minimum of four years working at a summer camp or related experience
• Previous experience leading a leadership program as well as wilderness trips.
• Minimum qualifications: Standard First Aid, NLS and CPR C, WHIMIS, Wilderness First Aid, Paddle Canada Certification
• Recommended qualifications: Outdoor Council of Canada, Interpretive Guides Association, Class 4 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License

Please note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training.
