Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Manager, Protection Services, and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface General Hospital, the LEAD HAND II, SECURITY is responsible for the effective guidance and direction of Security staff to ensure the security of hospital buildings, grounds, employees and patients and visitors. Performs regular functions of the Security staff as required and performing other related duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Several years experience as a Security Officer or Police Officer required.
  • Has Demonstrated Supervisory/Management skills and has Strong leadership skills required with the ability to motivate and direct the team to successfully complete the task assigned.
  • Must have or be able to acquire within a reasonable period of time a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and regulations applicable to the area of supervision.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a supervisory or personnel management course from a recognized post-secondary institution required or the equivalent of two (2) years (full-time status) recent supervisory/management experience may be considered.
  • Diploma from a recognized education facility in a related field or a combination of previous experience in law enforcement or a military background.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must possess a valid Security Guard License and/or any future license mandated by the province to perform the duties of a Security Guard.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver\'s license.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be able to work at extreme heights to support Heli-port operations.
  • Must be able to perform activities that include pre-landing inspections, activation of emergency systems and assisting patient off-loads.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to interact well with others.
  • Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature.
  • Must possess tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt readily to stressful situations.
  • Mature, professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (verbally and in writing).
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Candidates need to complete and pass the Certified Supervisor course, offered by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (www.ICPM.net)
  • Candidates without the course without this certification may also be considered but the award of this position will be conditional of them completing and passing this course within 6 months of being awarded this position.
Physical Requirements
  • Physically fit and able to stand/walk for long periods of time and run to urgent situations.
  • Physically able to restrain, detain or evict individuals.
