Job Summary:
The Lead Engineer (LE) is accountable for multi-disciplinary engineering deliverables to our customers for custom municipal and industrial treatment systems. The LE is responsible for determining the required resources and guiding a multi-disciplinary team, to ensure accuracy of design, timeliness of submittals, and adherence to budget.
The LE, Project Manager and Sourcing Project Leader, form a project leadership team. This leadership team works together to support the job and deliver what was sold to our customers. This team works to manage the project in its entirety and generates and maintains critical project reporting.
Key Characteristics:
Able to manage a team of multi-discipline engineers executing (a portfolio of) projects with an engineering utilization rate of approximately 1,000 hours per month, or about 8 full time engineers.
Have familiarity with project execution from a commercial standpoint from sales to project closure, and support the commercial team with bid activities including technical reviews, and labor estimates.
Broad responsibility to direct and monitor an engineering project team. This consists of Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls engineers, as well as various project support functions (Document Control, Sourcing, Finance, etc).
The LE coordinates the delivery of all of the engineering output on their assigned projects. While the LE has a strong engineering background, it is key for an LE to be skilled at building teams, communicating a vision, and delegating work. This includes being an effective facilitator of project team meetings and deliverables, and as needed conflict resolution within the project team.
They are thoughtful, cooperative, and creative. They are able to handle multiple shifting demands with professionalism and good judgment. The LE is the face of Veolia Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Accountable and Responsible for ensuring that all engineering deliverables are completed. As part of this, the LE must ensure that proper review of work is carried out on project deliverables either through facilitating formal review processes (such as E-Table) but also through in-function review by peer engineers and/or Technical Domain Leaders with pertinent expertise. Some of these engineering deliverables include, but are not limited to Process & Instrument Diagrams, equipment drawings, datasheets, plant and piping arrangements, instrumentation and controls architecture, and design specifications.
Coordinate all engineering activities, internal and external, across all functions by using industry standard tools such as project schedules, master document lists, rolling action item lists, risks and opportunities, change orders, engineering project reports, etc.
Ensures that the technical review of vendor selection and fabrication occurs, employing the right project team members to do so.
The LE coordinates technical requirements with suppliers and ensures the project team is providing information required to our vendors on schedule. The LE supports Sourcing in vendor management; ensuring our suppliers are on track and performing to the project\'s expectations.
Act as a customer liaison, working and resolving technical queries, setting and managing expectations, and maintaining a relationship with the customer.
Empowered to bring in project team members or pertinent technical domain leaders to maintain relationships with key customer counterparts.
The LE is responsible for the project team\'s resource budget, and identification of potential needs for competency development of the project team to ensure a successful project.
Drive team collaboration to ensure project activities are properly coordinated to maximize engineering performance. Structure project team rhythms and meetings to drive action plans, outcomes with clear and concise communication.

Education & Experience
Required:
Bachelor\'s degree in an accredited Engineering field
Five years project experience in engineering or a related field
Preferred:
Experience with industrial processes and system engineering - direct experience in water treatment, oil & gas, chemical or power industries
Experience with EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) contracts
Professional Engineer\'s License, or the ability to obtain one within 1 year
French, Spanish or Mandarin language skills may be useful
Working Conditions:
The role requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally 5-10% of the time
