Position Overview

Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Lead, Cloud Operations.

The position reports to the Manager Server, Storage and Cloud Services within the IT Infrastructure organization. The position works 35 hours per week, with normal business hours being 08:30 - 16:30, Monday to Friday. The position is subject to high stress and requires balancing multiple priorities with tight deadlines. There may be a requirement for after-hours work, depending on the nature of the work. The position will be responsible for the operation of the University\'s Cloud and container platforms (SaaS, IaaS, CaaS and PaaS) as well as be involved with supporting IT projects.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Work with customers, IT Partners, Project Managers, and representatives from various faculties/departments on campus to understand technical requirements or issues
  • Research and define technical standards
  • Work with the leadership team to build annual goals and objective for themselves and their staff
  • Manage a functional team in Cloud Operations
  • Conduct annual performance review process of direct reports
  • Lead as an escalation point and organize the team through challenging issues with the goal of root cause determination and build a remediation plan to resolve issues
  • Work with the design or project teams to build tasks, and track the work required for the technical items on projects to ensure timely completion of deliverables from their team
  • Ensure all systems are aligned with IT\xc3\xa2\xe2\x82\xac\xe2\x84\xa2s architectural standards and roadmaps
  • Actively participate in assigned projects delivering consulting, installation and support services
  • Assist and contribute to the success of a project deployment with regards to Cloud Operations
  • Operational upgrades coordination and implementation
  • Lifecycle management of hardware and software assets
  • Responsible for ensuring all documentation is detailed, accurate, timely, and meets the requirements of the project stakeholders and operational excellence. These documents may include, but are not limited to:
  • Consolidated design, showing both logical and physical layout
  • System build guides
  • Standard operating procedures for daily activities
  • Infrastructure application setup and configuration
  • Service catalog request items
  • Skills for infrastructure as code automation and orchestration for infrastructure operations
  • Workflow automation tools
  • Puppet, Ansible, or PowerShell scripting
  • Design and develop new technologies that align with vendor roadmaps or future trends in the industry that apply to the infrastructure environment
  • Lead the design process using his/her own technical expertise and challenge design team members on their technical recommendations where needed and appropriate
  • Expected to have a working knowledge of a wide range of server, storage, and network systems
  • Lead technology roadmap sessions and work with IT Architecture to develop new standards to drive innovation in the technical service realm
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • University degree or professional certification such as Azure Administrator Associate, MCSA/MCSE, CCNA,VCDX, VCP, or RHCE required
  • Minimum of 57 years of recent related experience equivalent to the above
  • 13 years of supervisory experience is a nice to have
  • Senior knowledge of Cloud technologies including
  • Senior knowledge of network technologies such as DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls
  • Senior knowledge of container technology
  • Dev/Ops knowledge and skillset
  • Understanding of Drupal and WordPress frameworks for building websites
  • Understanding of modern website deployment practices, especially continuous improvement/deployment processes
  • Physical and Virtual server knowledge and skillset
  • Ability to raise, facilitate, escalate and resolve business and technical issues Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, in both oral and written form
  • Capable of working on concurrent projects and managing conflicting priorities
  • Ability to translate technical jargon into businessfriendly language
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Routine access to sensitive information and maintaining confidence of the organizations information
  • ITIL v3 Foundations certification is an asset
