Position Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Accountant to oversee and mentor our Accounts & Operations Associate while managing the full spectrum of accounting responsibilities. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about precision, compliance, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and oversee the work of the Accounts & Operations Associate
Approve items for payment and ensure segregation of duties (SOD)
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and perform bank reconciliations, including trust accounts in compliance with RECA
Ensure compliance with CRA, GST, and PST regulations
Post journal entries and manage month-end and year-end processes
Support vendor invoice approvals and entry into Buildium with collaboration from project coordinators and managers
Prepare documentation for corporate and property year-end reporting
Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures
Collaborate with the fractional CFO on strategic financial initiatives
Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data across Xero and Buildium
Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in the CPA program or actively pursuing designation.
Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in property management or legal/law firm accounting is highly preferred
Strong understanding of RECA and CRA compliance
Proven intermediate Excel skills; preference will be given to candidates who have completed recognized Excel training or certification programs
Proficiency in accounting software Xero, and property management software Buildium
Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, adherence to Policies and ensuring segregation of duties across financial process.
Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey financial insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Mentorship capabilities, supporting the development and growth of junior team members
Proven leadership experience, including oversight of accounting operations and team collaboration
