Job Overview
Skyline Legal Services Professional Corporation is seeking a dedicated and skilled Lawyer to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal research, negotiation, and drafting legal documents, with a demonstrated understanding of both criminal law (Criminal Code of Canada) and civil litigation (Rules of Civil Procedure). This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to advocate effectively for clients across various legal matters. You will work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide sound, strategic legal advice.

Duties



Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as Lexis-Nexis to support case preparation and develop effective legal strategies. Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients, ensuring their best interests are represented. Draft, review, and revise a variety of legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and legal briefs, with precision and attention to detail. Provide legal counsel to clients across multiple areas, including Small Claims Court, immigration applications, criminal defense, and matters before the Superior Court of Justice. Draft Plaintiff's Claims, Defence Claims, and other court filings in accordance with the Rules of the Small Claims Court and Rules of Civil Procedure. Represent clients in court proceedings, bail hearings, mediations, and arbitrations, including both criminal and civil litigation matters. Apply working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada and the Rules of Civil Procedure to ensure legal compliance and effective case management. Stay up to date with evolving laws, case precedents, and regulatory changes to provide accurate and strategic legal advice.

Requirements



A degree in law from an accredited institution. Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario . Proven experience in legal research and writing, with proficiency in using Lexis-Nexis or similar legal research platforms. Strong negotiation skills with a demonstrated record of achieving favourable outcomes for clients. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and concisely. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple files and deadlines effectively. Familiarity with the Criminal Code of Canada, Rules of Civil Procedure, and Ontario court systems, including Small Claims and Superior Court.

Pay: From $40.00 per hour
