Job Description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads and Services, this position is responsible for maintaining the Town's infrastructure through the performance of a variety of labour activities.

The primary responsibilities for this position include (but not limited to) the following:

Installation, maintenance and or operation of storm water and drainage facilities (storm sewers, storm water management ponds, culverts, ditches, etc.). Maintenance of municipal cemeteries (ground maintenance, opening and closing of graves). Operate and maintain equipment, machinery and tools (loader, backhoe, tractor, dump/sand/plow trucks, etc.). Operate winter maintenance equipment for snow plowing, sanding, salting, and snow removal. Maintenance of roadways (road surface, sidewalks, boulevards, curbs, lighting, signage). Manual labour Data entry, record keeping and complete reports as necessary. Work in conjunction with various departments and ministries. Assist in addressing public inquiries, concerns, requests and complaints, as required.

The successful candidate will have as a minimum the following qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent post-secondary education. Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery (minimum one year). Knowledge of practices and methods applicable to civil construction and construction materials and their use. Knowledge of the hazards and safety requirements of the job. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act,and WHMIS. Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment including articulating municipal tractor, backhoe, loader, dump truck, etc. Must be physically fit and capable of performing heavy physical labour at various job locations. Ability to respond within 30 minutes to a call out when on standby Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. Ability to follow specific instructions. Willingness to participate in the continuous development of skills and knowledge related to the industry and successfully complete all training associated with the position on an ongoing basis. Demonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with co-workers and the public. Ability to work extended hours as required.

Pay: $29.46 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
