Lab Assistant, Specimen Procurement

Job Description

Sinai Health is looking for an experienced Lab Assistant that is aligned to this purpose to join our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine - Specimen Procurement team.





In this role you will:




Perform phlebotomy on patients Perform ECGs on patients Accession and process specimens collected Perform special procedure tests such as glucose tolerance and glucose challenge tests Handle cash/debit/credit card transactions for patients paying for non-insured testing Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements

Job Requirements:




Mandatory


Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO formerly OSMT) or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Certification Graduate of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent




Preferred


2 years of experience in phlebotomy and ECG




Skills and Knowledge


Proficiency in the use of Laboratory Information System, MS Office (Word, Excel) Knowledgeable in safety practices when handling biological specimens Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record In accordance with accreditation standards, employment is conditional upon applicants demonstrating proof of visual color discrimination ability pertinent to the essential duties of the job
