Classic Mouldings Inc. is a Calgary-based wood moulding and millwork manufacturer specializing in custom and standard profiles for residential and commercial projects. We produce casings, baseboards, crowns, S4S, and other solid wood components. We are looking for an

experienced Tooling Technician

support our production team and ensure high-quality, consistent tooling.

Position Overview

The Tooling Technician is responsible for grinding, sharpening, setting up, and maintaining all knives, cutterheads, and tooling used in our moulders and related equipment. This role is critical to product quality, machine performance, and minimizing downtime in the shop.

Key Responsibilities

Grind and sharpen custom and standard profile knives (HSS and carbide) for moulder production. Set up, balance, and assemble tooling and cutterheads according to specifications. Read and interpret moulding/profile drawings and ensure accurate knife geometry and profile shape. Inspect knives and tools for wear or damage and perform necessary adjustments or replacements. Maintain grinders and tooling equipment in good working condition. Organize and track tooling, templates, and knife inventory. Collaborate with moulder operators to ensure tooling readiness and quality. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized tooling room.

Qualifications

Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience

in a tooling, knife grinding, or moulder support role within a millwork or woodworking shop is required. Strong knowledge of profile knife grinders, knife geometry, and tooling concepts. Ability to read and understand profile drawings/templates with high accuracy. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Good communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.

Assets (Nice to Have)

Experience with Weinig, SCM, Wadkin, or similar systems. Familiarity with CAD profile software.

Pay: $28.00-$38.00 per hour
