Junior Financial Analyst (Development Accounting and Reporting)
to join our scaling organization.

ROLE
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Accounting, the Junior Financial Analyst (Development Accounting and Reporting) will support the financial reporting team with financial analysis, monthly budgeting, development reporting, construction reporting, investor relations, lender reporting, and other tasks as required. This role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with other members of the bookkeeping and project management teams.
This role is essential for supporting the company's growth and profitability by providing support to ELM Group's internal and external reporting team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensuring underlying general ledger and accounting records are accurate and up-to date; review invoices for proper cost coding and cut-off
Record routine journal entries for capital contributions/distributions, loan drawdown/repayment, depreciation, retained earnings allocations, and bank & interest
Assistance with annual financial statement preparation & submission of year-end files to external accountants; assist in preparation of responses to queries from external accountants and record adjusting journal entries
Assist with preparation of monthly construction draw, including reviewing internal documentation (invoices, contracts, etc.) and co-ordination with cost consultant, and confirmation of funding receipt to ensure timely payment of invoices
Assist in cross-referencing monthly budget maintained by project management team with underlying data (i.e. contracts, invoices, change orders etc.) and raise any issues to manager for further liaison with construction team
Preparation of monthly internal reporting (i.e. trial balance, WIP schedule, etc.)
Assist in review of cash flow forecasts for development projects provided by project management team, to determine monthly funding requirements
Assist in preparation of monthly project proforma, including forecasts for interest risk analysis, financing costs, and other soft costs
Assist in preparation of master reporting (Letters of Credit, Equity, Loans, Guarantees)
Assist in preparation of quarterly investor reporting, including development updates from projects team, development cost schedules, and financial statements
Prepare and issue capital/cash calls in the investor portal, in line with monthly cash flow needs of projects; monitor receipt of funds and follow up on outstanding amounts
Maintaining investor relations; update transactions, database and contact list in the investor portal and respond to any investor inquiries
Co-ordinate and ensure timely submission of annual bank reporting deadlines
Other ad hoc items as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field
Working experience in finance, accounting, or a related field, preferably within the real estate development and construction sector is an asset
Strong interest with the construction and development industry, to understand project state and day-to-day transactions
Strong analytical skills and ability to prepare reporting to meet both internal and external stakeholder needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders
Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of and proven experience in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Proficiency in using construction accounting software and tools is an asset (QuickBooks, Jonas Premier, Yardi, etc.)
