As we continue to expand, we are looking for a Junior Controller who is ready to grow with someone analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to take ownership of the company's financial operations.
About the Role
The Junior Controller will play a key role in managing and improving the company's financial processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced trading environment and enjoys having a direct impact on company growth.
Key Responsibilities
The Junior Controller's duties include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring timely payment of all mills and prompt processing of supplier invoices.
Managing customer receivables and collections while maintaining current accounts.
Monitoring and optimizing internal cash flow for operational efficiency.
Coordinating with financial institutions (including BMO and others) on banking operations.
Overseeing financial reporting on aged inventory and trader commissions.
Administering payroll and ensuring accurate, timely salary payments.
Coordinating quarterly and annual tax filings with MNP or other accounting partners.
Managing employee benefits programs (medical, dental, etc.) with management approval.
Supporting hiring and supervision of administrative and back-office staff as the company grows.
Ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and state financial reporting requirements.
Maintaining organized reload and carrier contracts and ensuring timely carrier payments.
Upholding company policies on confidentiality, ethics, and financial integrity.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation or enrollment is an asset).
Experience: 2-5 years of accounting or controller experience.
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis, financial modeling).
Strong QuickBooks proficiency.
Comfort working with AI tools to streamline financial reporting and analysis.
Soft Skills:
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
Work Hours
Standard hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
Additional hours may be required to meet reporting deadlines.
