We are a fast-growing, consumer packaged goods (CPG) company, proudly based in Vancouver and selling to major U.S. distributors and retailers. With a lean, high-performing team, an autonomous culture, and strong market momentum, we're looking for a hands-on Junior Accountant to support day-to day accounting operations and financial reporting to drive growth.
The Junior Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations with a focus on accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and month-end close activities. This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional looking to gain hands on experience in the CPG industry.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
Create customer invoices in the accounting system.
Oversee accurate and timely application of all customer payments.
Sync invoices with EDI software and investigate/resolve sync errors.
Reconcile and record Amazon US payments.
Support AR collections and investigate short paid invoices and deductions.
Prepare sales and deductions reports
Ensure credit memos are properly recorded
Accounts Payable
Enter purchase order and non purchase order bills, including PO prepayments.
Ensure vendor bills are accurately recorded and matched to Pos and receiving documents.
Allocate ocean freight, import duties, and container trucking costs to the appropriate containers and PO bills.
Record and manage accrued freight costs at period-end.
Allocate management fees in accordance with intercompany policies.
Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies
Bank Reconciliations
Prepare and maintain monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded for all Canadian & USA bank accounts.
Investigate and resolve reconciling items, including outstanding deposits, payment discrepancies, and bank fees.
Support cash controls by maintaining accurate documentation and audit trails for bank transactions.
General Accounting
Prepare and post journal entries (accruals, prepaids, month-end adjustments)
Maintain general ledger accuracy and supporting schedules.
Perform balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AR, AP, credit cards)
Assist with month-end close activities as assigned.
Support senior accounting staff with ad hoc reporting and analysis.
Systems & Process Improvement
Enter and maintain data in ERP/accounting systems (Netsuite)
Assist with updating and simplifying accounting processes to improve efficiency and support business needs.
Assist with creating and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accounting processes.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or currently pursuing).
1 - 3 years of accounting experience.
Experience with ERP or accounting systems (NetSuite experience an asset).
Familiarity with EDI platforms such as SPS Commerce is preferred.
Currently pursuing or planning to pursue CPA designation (CPA Canada) is an asset.
Experience or interest in CPG, manufacturing, or retail environments preferred.
Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic formulas).
