The Opportunity



We are seeking an experienced Materials Handling Designer to join our Burnaby team. The successful candidate will have proficient 3D modelling, mechanical design, and drafting skills along with experience laying out and/or designing bulk materials handling equipment or systems at marine terminals, mines, or similar facilities. Familiarity with point clouds, geo-referencing data, and integrating point cloud data into 3d models is important. Experience working with conveyors, stacker-reclaimers, shiploaders, rail yards, railcar unloading or loading facilities, and related systems is also valuable to the role.

Responsibilities



In collaboration with senior engineering resources, detailed design, modelling, and drafting of mechanical and bulk materials handling systems and infrastructure. This could include detailed design of small maintenance upgrades like conveyor drive replacements, or high-level conceptual layouts of entire terminals to support planning and feasibility studies. Generate clear, complete, and accurate models and drawings, whether these are quick high-level concept sketches or models, or fully detailed drawing sets for construction. Prepare quantity take-offs in support of capital cost estimates. Coordinate with and have an understanding of the requirements of other disciplines such as civil, structural and electrical.

Requirements



A diploma in mechanical engineering technology or similar from a recognized post-secondary institution along with 5+ years of experience in the design and drafting of mechanical systems and infrastructure, preferably specifically within the bulk materials handling field. Proficiency with Solidworks, Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD. Familiarity with lidar point clouds and geospatial data integration into 3d modelling software.

Assets



Strong communications skills and ability to understand and incorporate feedback for continuous growth and improvement. Attention to detail and strong understanding of drafting standards. Experience with Civil 3D and point cloud software such as ReCap or similar software.
