How will you contribute?

As part of the Building Operations and Asset Management Division, the Transportation Services Supervisor will oversee a team of up to 10 unionized drivers. Together they provide transportation services to the Senators and Senate staff, as well as ensure the movement of furniture and office equipment.

The supervisor also ensures the ongoing maintenance of the Senate fleet of vehicles, comprised of a truck, vans and shuttles, as well as the regular maintenance of all related equipment keeping Health & Safety codes at the forefront.

In addition to the day-to-day operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the human resources of his/her section to define the goals and priorities of subordinates through the development of training plans and ongoing assessment of individual performances. The successful candidate will also prepare statistics by analyzing and consulting data to make recommendations to improve the quality of services.

The general public to staff one (1) indeterminate (Full-Time) position in the Properties and Services Directorate.

Prerequisites

  • The successful completion of post-secondary school education in a related discipline OR an acceptable combination of education and relevant work experience;
  • A minimum of 12 months experience in a supervisory role overseeing a unionized workforce with accountability for performance management, health & safety, staffing as well as labor relations;
  • Experience preparing schedules, staffing assignments and reporting of statistics by analyzing data from software and databases while making recommendations to improve the quality of service;
  • Experience managing a fleet of motorized vehicles including preventative maintenance procedures, replacement of vehicles, equipment and materials while achieving cost effectiveness;
  • Knowledge of financial management practices to oversee and make recommendations regarding operational budget management;
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle safety requirements and safety and security practices, methods and techniques to supervise a team;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a clear and concise manner in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead difficult conversations with colleagues and at various levels considered an asset;
  • Possession of a valid class D and F driver\'s license or class 3 Quebec driver\'s license will be considered an asset.

Candidates must have and maintain a valid driver\'s license recognized in Canada and will need to produce a driver\'s abstract record.
