Engineers Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for 9,700+ Professional Engineers and Engineers-in-Training practicing in Nova Scotia or on Nova Scotia projects. The Opportunity
We're seeking an IT Support and System Administrator to ensure the seamless operation, security, and evolution of our IT environment in a cloud-first, hybrid workplace. You'll be the primary point of contact for IT, balancing hands-on help-desk support with systems administration, data/reporting, and the rollout of modern collaboration tools. You will also administer Teams for our 400+ volunteer network and build user-friendly dashboards that integrate SharePoint and Planner to streamline work.
What You'll Do
Core systems & cloud administration
Maintain, configure, and ensure reliable operation of computers, network servers, and virtual servers; install/upgrade components and software; integrate automation to improve efficiency.
Administer Microsoft 365 and SharePoint (sites, permissions, libraries/lists), optimize collaboration tools, and troubleshoot issues.
Implement and manage security & compliance: encryption, DLP, archiving, legal hold/eDiscovery, MFA, and secure guest access.
Maintain IT asset inventory, device lifecycle, patching, and production updates.
Collaboration, dashboards & volunteer support
Lead the transition from general use of Teams/SharePoint to structured, dashboard-driven workflows; create dashboards (SharePoint/Power BI) and connect work to Microsoft Planner across teams.
Provide Teams administration for our volunteer community (400+), and develop beginner-friendly user guides with the Director, Communications & IT.
Help desk & user enablement
Operate a help desk model: triage/manage tickets, configure end-user software, and deliver responsive support.
Train staff on new dashboards/reports and ensure effective adoption.
Data, reporting & quality
Design/manage the reporting environment (sources, security, metadata), generate cross-system reports, and uphold data integrity/normalization.
Provide QA for imported data; process confidential data in line with guidelines.
Leadership & project contribution
Lead projects and provide day-to-day guidance to others (no direct reports).
What You Bring
Education & certifications
Bachelor's in Computer Science, IT, System Administration (or diploma + 5 years relevant experience).
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Security Administrator Associate are assets.
Experience
3-5 years in database/network/system administration, including maintaining and configuring servers and core services.
Hands-on SharePoint admin (site creation, permissions, troubleshooting) and Microsoft 365 tenant experience.
Dashboard creation with Power BI and SharePoint; strong data reporting and analysis background.
Scripting/automation (e.g., PowerShell), solid understanding of networking protocols/systems/software.
Help desk operations and ticket management; strong written and verbal communication.
Technical strengths (highly valued)
Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Planner), Azure AD/Entra ID, device management, virtualization, automation/scripting.
Security/compliance practices, including encryption, DLP, eDiscovery, MFA, and secure guest access.
Experience with iMIS or similar association management platforms is a strong asset.

Work Model & Schedule
Hybrid work model with a balance of onsite and remote work; occasional after-hours maintenance or incident response may be required.
Compensation & Term
Contract: 6 months at $30,000-$35,000 total compensation.
Potential conversion: If converted to full-time, annual compensation will be reviewed at that time.
