Position Summary:

Reporting to the Network Manager & Architect, the IT Infrastructure Engineer is a senior level hands-on technician with extensive experience across both Systems Administration and Network Administration disciplines. The incumbent will be responsible for, in collaboration with the Manager, the requirements gathering, design, implementation, maintenance, documentation and support of the Enterprise\'s global IT infrastructure, both on-premises and in a hybrid multi-cloud environment. The IT Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical leadership to a national team of Network & System Administrators, and work in collaboration with business stakeholders and technical staff from other departments to deliver secure, robust and functional IT systems and network infrastructure.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as a functional bridge between Systems and Network teams, working directly with the technical staff from both groups to design, build and support infrastructure components including, but not limited to network switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS), cloud platform as a service (PaaS), traditional server hardware, and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) hardware & related software.
  • Perform routine maintenance and provide support, troubleshooting and lifecycle management for assigned systems and hardware.
  • Own, analyze and troubleshoot complex technical support incidents and problems up to and including the Operating System, Virtualization, and Physical hardware layers.
  • Implement and maintain back of house monitoring systems to assure the performance and stability of critical systems and network components.
  • Respond to and resolve critical service interruptions on a timely basis
  • Proactively identify opportunities and propose solutions for continuous improvement
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of systems hardware, resources and key processes, review event logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs
  • Participate in the design, testing, maintenance and execution of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans
  • Provide tier-3 support for stakeholders and front-line technical staff
  • Participate in and adhere to the established Change Management practices as per ITIL guidelines
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a national team of System & Network Administrators and other technical staff
  • Lead technical implementation projects, in collaboration with the Manager and Project Management teams, from requirements gathering through to implementation and operational hand-off.
  • Produce technical documentation for assigned infrastructure and projects, such as Visio diagrams, workflows, administration guides, as-builts, and/or end-user instructional guides
  • Provide 24/7 emergency on-call technical support on a rotating schedule
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with stakeholders, vendors, and colleagues
  • Comply with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by Management
Education and Qualification Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience designing, implementing and supporting the IT systems and network infrastructure for a medium to large sized organization
  • Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a suitable combination of education and hands-on experience
  • Proven experience and advanced working knowledge of a majority of the following technologies in a medium to large sized Enterprise environment:
  • Virtualization technologies such as VMWare ESXi and Nutanix AHV
  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Physical Server hardware platforms such as Dell PowerEdge, HP ProLiant, and Nutanix Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)
  • Microsoft Active Directory domain services including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, etc.
  • Cloud computing environments such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services
  • Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Office 365 and Identity Management (SSO, Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication)
  • Network switching and routing (preference to Cisco)
  • Network firewalls and security platforms (preference to Palo Alto)
  • Network load balancing platforms (preference to F5)
  • Remote and site-to-site VPN technologies
  • Experience with Disaster Recovery planning and related technologies such as Zerto, or Nutanix Metro Replication
  • Preference to candidates with active industry standard certifications in Network Switching and Routing (CCNA/CCNP), Microsoft Windows Server technologies (MCSE), Cloud technologies (AZ-104), and/or Firewall technologies (PCNSA).
  • Committed to staying up to date with the latest tools and trends in IT technology
  • Ability to exceed customer expectations through timely, effective and positive service oriented communication
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Able to travel within Canada
