Position Overview


The Simulation, Optimization and Systems (SOS) Group at Autodesk Research is looking for a passionate and skilled research intern for Summer 2023 (May-Aug) at our Toronto office located in the MaRS Discovery District. The position will involve working on and enhancing a cutting-edge optimization framework for generative design and topology optimization of advanced structures and assemblies. The work will include GUI development, testing as well as developing new features within the framework.

Responsibilities

• 
  Conduct original research in structural solvers and multi-physics topology optimization
• 
  Develop and implement a prototype toolbox of solvers for a variety of element types along with adjoint solving methods
• 
  Benchmark, test, and extend the capabilities of this toolbox
• 
  Write documentation of the work carried out, either as part of an academic publication or for internal communication
• 
  Contribute to the technical expertise of the SOS Group

Minimum Qualifications

• 
  Currently pursuing an advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, the Engineering sciences, or other related disciplines
• 
  Experience and excellent knowledge of C++, Python programming and scientific libraries
• 
  Experience in implementing the finite element method for solving partial differential equations
• 
  Experience in using gradient-based optimization routines for solving large-scale optimization problems
• 
  Experience in solving time-dependent problems for structural applications preferred
• 
  Experience in parallel programming on GPUs preferred
• 
  Experience in documenting scientific findings
