Location: Life Sciences, Cambridge

SKILLS:

\xc2\xb7 A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques.

\xc2\xb7 Must have a thorough knowledge of drafting principles.

\xc2\xb7 Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works.

\xc2\xb7 Must be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.

\xc2\xb7 Must be capable of working as part of a team.

\xc2\xb7 A thorough knowledge of the use of pneumatics

\xc2\xb7 A thorough knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT\'s, etc.).

\xc2\xb7 Must be capable of giving and taking direction.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

\xc2\xb7 Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.

\xc2\xb7 Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products.

\xc2\xb7 Produce concepts, working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product, using AutoCAD and Solid Works.

\xc2\xb7 Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. OSHA, CE or customer specific).

\xc2\xb7 Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.

\xc2\xb7 Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff.

\xc2\xb7 Liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications.

\xc2\xb7 Communicate all requested design changes to the Project Lead or Team Lead.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for communicating progress on tasks to the supervising designer.

\xc2\xb7 Formalize and update drawing documentation.

\xc2\xb7 Periodically supervise the mechanical design effort on a project level, delegating tasks to a team of people.

\xc2\xb7 Organize documentation, including quotes, project plan, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. on projects you are supervising.

\xc2\xb7 Responsible for communicating time estimates and resource requirements on design tasks to the Team Lead or Project Lead

\xc2\xb7 Review electrical requirements with respect to input and output devices with electrical designers.

\xc2\xb7 Review machine operations and machine sequences with programmers.

\xc2\xb7 Assist the fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians in the debug, integration resolving problems and completion of systems.

\xc2\xb7 Determine tools, fixtures and equipment to be used in fabrication and assembly of mechanical components and complete assemblies.

\xc2\xb7 Select appropriate purchased components for mechanical assemblies and create requisitions with appropriate delivery dates.

\xc2\xb7 Examine project instructions and drawings to determine test specifications

\xc2\xb7 Periodically oversees co-op students and Junior Designers on various projects.

Qualifications

Education:

\xc2\xb7 A post secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Experience:

\xc2\xb7 A minimum of 3 years of mechanical design experience within an automation environment
