Taylor Architecture Group (formerly Pin/Taylor Architects) is a small, vibrant, process driven Architectural practice with a focus on design solutions that are contextually appropriate to each specific project. Attention to detail and the importance of meaningful design related to climate and cultural considerations are critical to the success of projects in the North. Our offices are located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories; Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, and Ottawa, Ontario, with projects in communities throughout the arctic & sub-arctic regions of northern Canada. Projects include small scale commercial work as well as mid to large scale educational, institutional and government facilities.

The position will primarily involve working as part of a project design team, under the supervision of the Senior Interior Designer to provide services on interior design and architectural projects. The successful proponent will also report to the firm principal and to architectural team leads on specific projects. We are seeking an Interior Designer with some previous experience to join our team and to provide interior design support services on a range of projects.
Particulars:

  • Full-Time (37.5 hours per week), hourly wage

Responsibilities:
  • Move projects forward with minimal support/direction from Architectural Project Team Leads and from the Interior Design team’s Managing Associate (regular project meetings, weekly check-ins);
  • Follow project schedules and budget constraints; ensure project Team Leads are kept aware of progress and any active concerns/issues
  • Coordinate with internal team members and engineering consultants as needed
  • Carry out project work independently, or as part of a team (project-dependent):
    • Programming
    • Design & Drafting - interior plans, elevations and details, millwork drawings, furniture and finish plans
    • Production of renderings
    • Development and coordination of furniture, fixture and equipment schedules, finish schedules
    • Creating and updating specifications
    • Tender and Construction Administration services
  • Obtaining pricing and preparing cost estimates for furniture and interior renovation projects; communication with manufacturer and distributer reps
  • On-Site: as-built measurements, furniture inventories, site reviews and reporting during construction administration
  • Work cooperatively with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Assisting with creation of sample boards, and sample board assembly
  • Minute taking and updating of communication records
  • Management of sample room library documents and materials; research and database management of existing and new materials and products

Requirements:
  • Interior Design Degree from an accredited interior design program (CIDA-accredited)
  • Proficient in:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, self-organization skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines for multiple projects
  • Knowledge of interior construction types, details and procedures; familiarity with National Building Code 2015 and life safety concerns. Northern experience a particular asset.
  • Knowledge and confidence with selection of appropriate finish material and product selection
  • Required experience: 3-5 years in interior design, preferably Multi-Unit Residential, Healthcare, Workplace, Educational, Civic and/or Commercial work
  • Experience in developing commercial office furniture inventories, specifications, and schedules is desired.
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to travel to remote communities/locations for project work (travel is often by small engine planes)
  • Driver’s license

It would be beneficial, but not required, for the proponent to have some experience in the following:
  • Blubeam Revu
  • Sketchup and Podium
  • Hand drawing/rendering
  • Revit design and documentation
