Wood is looking for an Intermediate Human Environment Consultant to join our growing team in Eastern Canada.

Please note this role may have the option to work from any Wood location in Eastern Canada or even remotely.

About the Human Environment Team

Wood's Human Environment team is a diverse group of social researchers that work collaboratively across Canada. Working together in an interdisciplinary environment, we study the interactions between human populations and the natural and physical environments in project-specific contexts. This includes a wide range of industrial, government and Indigenous clients. Our services include social and economic baseline research, socio-economic impact assessments (including GBA+ analysis, land and resource use, visual aesthetics and impacts on Indigenous Rights), socio-economic effects monitoring and management, communication and engagement with public stakeholders, government agencies and Indigenous Nations and Peoples as well as Indigenous Knowledge studies. Working with Wood's Canadian Director of Social Inclusion and across geographies and disciplines, our Human Environment team leads the advancement of social inclusion internally and with our clients to strengthen the social aspect of ESG throughout our projects.

About Your Role

Reporting to Discipline Lead, Human Environment (Ontario), you will:

  • Participate in a range of social inclusion projects related to resource and infrastructure development through socio-economic research for baseline studies, impact assessments, effects monitoring and management
  • Identify and leverage publicly available data to develop key insights and inform the need for primary and participatory research
  • Support primary research, by conducting key informant interviews with knowledge holders within Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities
  • Support planning and implementation of Indigenous and public communication and engagement programs (in-person and/or virtual)
  • Prepare communication messaging and materials (such as notices, display boards, factsheets)
  • Prepare digital messaging and materials (such as website / social media content, surveys)
  • Support management of engagement records and reporting
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external clients
  • Liaise and work effectively with team members, other Wood technical specialists, clients, government agencies, Indigenous communities and stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications
  • University degree (graduate level preferred) in Social Sciences, Geography, Anthropology, Communications, Economics, Statistics, Indigenous studies or related field preferred
  • At least 5-7 years relevant experience in conducting and providing senior guidance on social and/or economic research and analysis and in environmental assessments (municipal, provincial, federal)
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English; French and / or an Indigenous language is an asset)
  • Excellent research, analysis and technical writing skills
  • Proven competence working with qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Background and interest in some combination of renewable and non-renewable resource development, land use planning, engagement with Indigenous Nations and Peoples and the public, economic development, waste management, physical infrastructure, social services programming
  • Knowledge of environmental / impact assessment processes (municipal, provincial, territorial, federal) is an asset
  • Desire to provide excellent client service and commitment to continuous technical improvement
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a strong entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and within budget
  • Fluency with use of MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint
  • Class G driver's license
  • Ability to travel for work from time to time
