Job Description


New Brunswick Multicultural Council NBMC is a bilingual nonprofit, an umbrella organization for established and emerging multicultural/ethno-cultural associations and immigrant-serving agencies in the province. Since 1983, NBMC has played a key advisory role to federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government on issues relating to multiculturalism, immigration, newcomer settlement, retention, and labor market integration. NBMC is also valued by the settlement and multicultural community as a central coordinating/capacity-building body that promotes efficiency, avoids duplication of services, and allows for an exchange of best practices and other resources through its network of organizations, contacts, partners, etc. Project Description As a continuation of its advocacy role in supporting women\xe2\x80\x99s rights and multiculturism in NB, NBMC embarked on a provincial domestic and intimate partner violence prevention project (IMvisible NB) for culturally and linguistically diverse non-status, refugees, and immigrant women (NSRI). The project is a resistant response to several multi-layers, structural and systematic barriers the NSRI women experience while accessing the domestic and intimate partner violence (D/IPV) support services in NB. We endeavor to identify those barriers and build culturally integrated capacity, skills, tools, and resources for supporting NSRI women. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain, build, and foster consistent communication with the domestic violence prevention sector, immigrant settlement agencies, and all other gender-based violence initiatives.

  • Report to the women and gender initiatives manager to distribute resources for several agencies and locations.
  • Collaborate with the domestic violence prevention sector, settlement agencies, and different multicultural agencies in Saint John Area.
  • Liaise with the domestic violence prevention and settlement sectors to determine the gaps, issues, and needs of the NSRI women experiencing D/IPV in the region.
  • Promote the project to raise awareness about unique barriers for immigrant women experiencing domestic and/or intimate partner violence.

  • Be the main point of contact for the project in the Saint John
  • Identify possible promising practices and pathways to inclusion for NSRI women.
  • Develop/distribute multilingual awareness resources in the region once needed.
  • Arrange, promote, and deliver information sessions for NSRI women in Greater Saint John with the support of the project manager.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 years\' experience in the women\xe2\x80\x99s advancement sector, D/IPV sector or immigrant settlement sector, or related field.
  • Degree or a certificate in Social Sciences, or recognized Communications /Public Relations related studies.
  • Excellent Spanish or Mandarin is a language a strong asset.
  • Strong leadership, event management, networking, interpersonal skills and attention to detail are necessary.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Flexible, resourceful, and prepared to take new tasks. \xc2\xb7
  • Experience in managing social media and networking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with immigrant women\xe2\x80\x99s issues
  • Capable of collaborating and working with other community organizations and immigration service providers.
  • Able to work both under limited supervision and as part of a team.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and compliance with the Privacy Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships with various stakeholders.

Requirements:
  • Must reside in the Greater Saint John Area.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license; access to a vehicle is an asset.

Working hours, compensation, and term of position
  • 20 hours per week,
  • Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
  • One-year contract until March 31st, 2024.
  • Hourly Rate: $23

Work on evenings and weekends for activities across Saint John will sometimes be required in this position. The candidate will have the option to manage their own schedule to meet the position requirements effectively without incurring overtime.
