About the Position

ATS Traffic is looking for an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Technician to join our IntelliTrafik Division! This division is the technology (ITS) piece and this role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of ITS and traffic signal systems such as traffic signal cabinets, loop detection systems, non-intrusive data collection devices (video/radar/LiDAR) and traffic signal electronics. Travel to sites within Edmonton could be required. A company vehicle is provided to complete on site jobs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing ITS support for internal and external customers in person, over the telephone or via email.
  • Maintain a superior understanding of the ITS technology, field devices and subsequent power tools to deploy them in the field.
  • Installation, maintenance, and/or repair of ITS and traffic signal systems such as traffic signal cabinets, loop detection systems, and traffic signal electronics.
  • Building/creating and assembling junction boxes
  • Assist with the development of traffic studies and design plans such as for ITS infrastructure, traffic signals, signing, construction sequencing, and traffic control plans.
  • Troubleshoot ITS and traffic signal equipment and make recommendations to repair or resolve any system issues.
  • Maintenance of spare equipment and parts, including inventory management and documentation.
  • Relevant technology includes CCTV systems, dynamic message signs, travel time systems, vehicle detection systems, fiber optics and wireless systems.
  • Ensure all traffic signal installation and related activities are conducted in compliance with applicable traffic control device regulations, standards, and specifications.
  • Occasional data reporting
  • Provide informal on-site training for ITS products as needed.
  • Comply with applicable OH&S standards and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education such as an Electronics Engineering Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • IMSA Level I or higher would be an asset
  • Strong technical skills and an ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and customers
  • A valid Non-GDL (non-graduated) Class 5 Driver's License and a Clean 3-Year Regular Drivers Abstract is required to drive our company vehicles.
  • You must own your own vehicle to get to and from work. Our Edmonton branch is not located on any convenient public transportation routes.
  • As this is a safety-sensitive role, all candidates must undergo and pass pre-employment and post-incident Drug and Alcohol Testing. Note: All safety-sensitive positions have a zero tolerance policy marijuana, medical or recreational.
  • Previous knowledge and use of the 6S and LEAN methodologies is an asset!
  • Knowledge of communications technology is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic signal systems and relevant experience is desired.
