We are excited to add an Intellectual Property and Grants Manager that will lead and achieve our Intellectual Property (“IP”) and Grant funding strategies.
This role can be onsite or hybrid!!!

  • Ideal minimum onsite expectations: in-office attendance the first week of employment along with 1 day each week thereafter

How you will make a difference
  • Management of the Avidbots Intellectual Property portfolio
  • Lead the application and prosecution patent process by partnering with our engineering team and external IP firms
  • Collaborate with marketing, architecture, and product management teams on trademark filings and prosecution
  • Partner with external contractors to solidify our IP strategy
  • Responsible for the annual IP budget including cost management
  • Complete entire application processes for multiple grants such as Ontario Center of Innovation (OCI), IRAP, SRED, NSERC, FedDev, etc.
  • Perform research on additional government grants that are applicable to our upcoming portfolio
  • Provide consistent updates on IP and grant activities to Avidbots leadership and designated stakeholders

This professional will manage and support the increasing IP portfolio as we release new products developed by our Research & Development (“R & D”) Team. As additional IP develops, we have growing needs to target and apply for government support programs and/or grants. This is an individual contributor role. The ideal candidate has a strong project management background and IP management working experience. This leader will be knowledgeable enough of the technology involved to understand how it fits with the strategy as well as how to best position it for a patent application.
Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Commerce, or related field
  • 3+ years of professional experience directly managing Intellectual Property program(s) (ex: execution of patent applications, record keeping, reporting, overall strategy, etc.)
  • 2+ years of professional experience applying to government funding programs
  • 2+ years of professional Project Management experience
  • Successfully complete pre-employment onboarding requirements that may include: criminal/civil background checks and motor vehicle records search

Preferred qualifications and key skills
  • Passionate about patents and inventions
  • Professional experience applying for grants submitted to common institutions (ex: OCI, IRAP, SRED, NSERC, FedDev, etc.)
  • Professional experience applying to multi-year funding grants, such as the Strategic Innovation Fund
  • Professional experience completing complex government grant applications by regularly collaborating with cross-functional teams (ex: finance, engineering, product management, architecture, etc.)
  • Proven track record of landing large funding grants ($500K+)
  • Ability to understand and lead the IP Portfolio strategy in addition to holding lead authority and knowledge of certain patents
  • Has a strong network of R&D funding professionals and organizations located in Ontario and throughout Canada
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
