Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Operations Manager, the Intake Pharmacy Assistant works under the guidance of the Pharmacist on duty to:
Process new and refill prescriptions
Assist with refill scheduling
Program infusion pumps
Assist with infusion supplies requirements
The Intake Pharmacy Assistant may also help prepare medications, complete sterile compounding of medication, maintain the compounding area and equipment, and monitor inventory as appropriate.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the pharmacist in maintaining federal, provincial, and local laws, accrediting body standards, and Policies and Procedures (P&Ps)
Schedule patients for repeat medications
Perform prescription data entry to track drug lot numbers as required
Assist the pharmacist in preparing required infusion supplies for delivery of medication
Assist the pharmacist in programming pumps and infusion devices for medication delivery
Assist the pharmacist in entering prescriptions into the prescription software (Kroll), and filling/billing such prescriptions
Assist the pharmacist in filling refill medications through the prescription software (Kroll)
Assist the pharmacist in preparing compounding sheets for the preparation of medication
Assist the pharmacist in the preparation and labeling of medications as allowed by law
Maintain pharmacy records including filing and documenting required information on dispensing records
Clean work areas routinely in accordance with policies and procedures
Communicate appropriately with all members of the healthcare team
Document appropriately according to P&Ps, all activities using required paperwork (logs)
Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance activities, education programs, and department/branch meetings
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certificates, and Experience
University degree or diploma in a related discipline plus relevant experience
Pharmacy Assistant Certificate/Diploma from an accredited institution is preferred
Under no circumstances may a pharmacy assistant mix medications or provide service without a licensed pharmacist present
Current CPR certification required if involved with direct patient care
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals
Ability to understand basic medical terminology
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
Must be able to perform basic algebraic calculations
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles while performing duties
