Position Overview:

Job summary

The Blown Attic Insulation Installer is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of blown-in insulation products in residential attics. The installer works as part of a crew, operating a blowing machine and other hand tools to ensure complete and even coverage of the insulation material according to project specifications and building codes.

Key responsibilities

Installation and equipment operation



Set up and operate insulation blowing machines and other required equipment to install loose-fill fiberglass or cellulose. Ensure the proper setup and maintenance of equipment to guarantee safety and efficiency. Follow job specifications and industry standards to achieve the correct insulation depth (R-value) and density. Work in attics and other confined spaces to distribute insulation evenly, using hose attachments to fill all small cavities and gaps.

Site preparation and cleanup



Inspect work areas to identify and mitigate safety hazards, reporting any concerns to the crew leader or supervisor. Prepare the site by covering windows, floors, and other surfaces to prevent damage and maintain a clean work environment. Perform preliminary prep work, such as installing soffit ventilation baffles and air-sealing any gaps or cracks. Load and unload insulation materials and equipment from the company truck. Clean up all insulation debris and waste materials from the worksite and dispose of them properly.

Safety and quality assurance



Strictly adhere to company safety policies and procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, respirators, safety glasses, and gloves. Follow regulations from authorities like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Conduct quality checks to ensure the insulation is installed evenly and meets all job specifications.

Collaboration and communication



Communicate with the team to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient project execution. Follow directions from the foreman or superintendent to complete the job accurately and on schedule. Effectively communicate with homeowners, responding to questions and addressing concerns with a professional demeanor.
Skills and qualifications

Required qualifications



Experience:

Previous experience in insulation installation or a related construction field is preferred, but many companies are willing to train motivated individuals.

Physical fitness:

Must be physically able to lift heavy insulation bags (50+ pounds), climb ladders, and work for extended periods in uncomfortable positions or confined, dusty spaces.

Driving:

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are often required to travel to different job sites.

Work environment

Work is conducted on residential and commercial construction sites, primarily in attics and crawl spaces. Work may occur in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. The job involves exposure to dust, noise, and tight spaces.
Experience: An asset

Availability: Must be available Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and weekends on an as needed basis

Qualifications:

Must be willing to work safely in the workplace; Knowledge of the proper use of equipment being used; Able to take direction to get specified work done in a timely manner with little supervision; Ably to work under pressure; Problem solving and the ability to adapt to changing situations and schedules; Courses in math, shop, mechanical drawing and blueprint reading are considered helpful; Demonstrate pride in workmanship and take responsibility for work completed; Able to work in inclement weather; Willingness to ask questions and communicate; and Eager to learn and develop new skills and abilities.
