What you\'ll doThe Department of Sociology and Criminology seeks to fill a Regular Part-Time position starting in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be able to teach some or all of the following courses: Introduction to Criminology; Surveillance and Social Control; Gender, Crime and Justice; Law and Society; Minorities and Justice; and Green Criminology. The course load will be a minimum of five courses to be taught over the Fall and Spring terms, with the potential for teaching in the Summer term as well. A full course load at Capilano is eight courses per year; each class is capped at 35 students.Capilano is excited to be opening a new campus in Squamish, a 45-minute drive north of Vancouver. We are hoping to offer one Introduction to Criminology course at this campus, one class per week. Teaching at Squamish is not required for this position but is considered an asset.We are a joint Criminology and Sociology department, instructors who can teach courses such as Introduction to Sociology are encouraged to apply.As a member of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in the School of Social Sciences, you will be instrumental in helping learners to approach issues of crime, deviance, and social control from a critical perspective. The successful candidates will show a strong commitment to mentoring students from a wide range of backgrounds.Successful applicants will be passionate about teaching and will help us continue to build exceptional experiences for our student community. Opportunities for research are growing as we expand support under the office of Creative Activity, Research, and Scholarship. What you\'ll bringMinimum:Applicants must have a Master\'s degree in Criminology and be able to teach CRIM 101, Introduction to Criminology.Preferred:Applicants with a PhD in Criminology are preferred, as are those who can teach CRIM 202, Surveillance and Society, and other Criminology courses. We are developing a BA degree that will greatly expand our course offerings and student intake, and successful applicants will help us to build this program.We are a joint Sociology and Criminology Department, and as such we are always looking for instructors who have the potential to teach in both disciplines.We are committed to diversifying and supporting our teaching faculty.
