The Opportunity



The School of Hospitality and Tourism (H&T) is proud to be ranked as both as the number one hospitality school and number one Culinary school in Canada, and #18 in the world. The school is currently accepting applications for a full-time Culinary Arts Instructor. Reporting to the Academic Chair, Culinary Programs you will work with students and faculty in a team-oriented setting to champion innovation, inclusion and values of belonging. As a leader in your field, you will be accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with academic lectures and hands-on learning, culinary events and activities to inspire the future leaders of our industry. In addition, the successful applicant will have exceptional human skills and strong technical skills in all aspects of Culinary Arts. You are an excellent communicator who works well in a collaborative and supportive team environment.

We train over 1,200 students each year in our immersive learning environments. Our faculty and students run the Highwood Kitchen + Bar, Tastemarket Canadian Kitchen; International Culinary Campus, 4Nines Diner and Destinations Travel Centre. We also create and execute several events, and work hand-in-hand with industry to provide our students with highly relevant experience such as practicums, internships and class project work.


Working collaboratively with the school leadership team, faculty, staff, SAIT community and industry, you will help us on our journey to become recognized as one of the world\xe2\x80\x99s preeminent schools in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts education. Student success is the bedrock of our success, and as such you will be a champion of student experience, program excellence and innovation.

The Role

    • Instruct high level courses to mature learners
    • Preparing and presenting lectures and labs
    • Developing course outlines and curriculum
    • Participate in curriculum and program reviews
    • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
    • Evaluating student progress and facilitating student achievement
    • Providing ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
    • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors
    • Monitor and maintain food costs according to guidelines
    • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students


Qualifications

    • Must have expert knowledge of all cooking methods and styles (i.e. classical; contemporary; hot; cold; various cultural cuisines) as practiced in leading food service establishments and possess a Red Seal or equivalent
    • A minimum of 10 years related culinary industry experience, preferably including senior leadership roles
    • International experience strongly preferred
    • Hotels and Resort experience (domestic and international) preferred
    • Competition experience preferred
    • Teaching experience/Provincial Instructor Diploma program is an asset
    • Clear and concise understanding of safe and hygienic food handling practices
    • Willingness and ability to learn new programs
    • Demonstrated computer literacy
    • Exemplary Organizational skills
    • University degree an asset
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
