The Faculty\xe2\x80\x99s divisional IT team, Information & Instructional Technology (IIT) and local, departmental IT teams are a crucial source of support for faculty teaching, research and administrative operations. IIT works closely and collaboratively with institutional teams as well as local IT teams to champion and support technology initiatives as well as provide some key division wide IT services. In addition, IIT supports the technology needs for numerous departments, centers, schools and institutes including day to day computing, infrastructure fulfillment (systems, networking and data center), public web services and application development. We are a well-respected, service-oriented team that aims to deliver timely support and quality work, imperative for the smooth operation of our faculty.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Infrastructure, the Infrastructure Technology Delivery Lead provides exemplary leadership and technical expertise for support of systems/servers/applications, Data Centre services, networking, research based Infrastructure solutions and more. The Lead partners and aligns closely with IIT and other institutional teams and serves as an expert technical resource for all IT infrastructure related projects, initiatives and issues. The Lead also assumes responsibility for technical infrastructure activities and day to day operations by providing exemplary and proactive technical and team leadership forward thinking IT solutions, ongoing support and hands-on expertise where needed.

As part of their responsibilities, the Lead is also responsible for guiding and architecting public and private cloud and other infrastructure and end user technology solutions developing necessary artifacts, business cases, reports and proposals and executing peer reviews for infrastructure projects. The role will lead by example to ensure the IIT Infrastructure team is highly effective, collaborative, fully trained and guided to an exemplary operational state with the right toolsets and guidelines. Ongoing cross training, peer reviews and knowledge sharing will ensure the team is ableto provide continuous support at all times.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design, build, deploy, maintain, document and support new operating systems and subsystems
  • Design, plan, document and implement the expansion and enhancement of IT networks
  • Develop and update architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems
  • Re-architecture heritage systems; develop and implement new technologiesand applications suitable for Faculty departments, including Active Directory and End User technologies
  • Assess existing platforms, design future state, and build transition in order to migrate both applications and infrastructure to highly resilient environments
  • Review infrastructure project intakes (research, teaching, web hosting services etc.) and provide consultation, written proposals and IT solutions that meet the needs of the faculty, researchers and staff
  • Prepare detailed technical specification documents highlighting system architecture, data flows, security protocols and access controls and execute risk assessments; Execute ongoing, structured cross training, peer reviews and knowledge sharing amongst leaders and team members
  • Develop, plan, test and document Disaster Recovery solutions to ensure the integrity of technical services; Steward and support all aspects of Data Centre support and solutions
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Sciences or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent and related experience working in a complex, heterogeneous computing environment, as well as three(3) years of experience providing leadership to technical staff on systems, networks, and IT infrastructure related issues.
  • Proven experience with complex, diverse, structured research computing intake and support in an academic environment is considered a strong asset; Proven experience with Data Centre IT is considered a strong asset.
  • Must have in-depth experience working with a range of computing environments, equipment and software including cloud technologies, Unix/Linux and OS/X (workstations, servers including VSphere, VMWare), Windows (servers, terminal services), Internet services (email, Samba, etc.), networking and security, virtualized server (VSphere, VMware), HAProxy servers.
  • Working experience with web-based solution design and implementation, web server administration, and application development support.; Expert experience with Active Directory architecture for multi-unit environments partnered with end user technology delivery experience.
  • Hands-on experience solutioning and implementing High Availability Galera cluster and database performance tuning.
  • In-depth experience solutioning and implementing cluster and load balancing HA infrastructure.
  • Experience implementing Ansible Playbooks andAutomation.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex and technical systems and applications in a complex networked environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with incident response and expert remediation.
  • Experience preparing root cause analysis reports, identify root cause by reviewing and troubleshooting systems, applications and database logs and implement permanent fix.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong commitment to high quality service.
  • Strong team leadership skills with the ability to direct, mentor and monitor team.
  • Time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • RHCSA, RHCA, RHCSHAC, CISSP, PMP, TOGAF, ITIL or related certifications, and IT Service Management implementation experience are considered strong assets.

USW Pay Band 16 -- $99,548 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $127,305. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
