INFORMATION AND REFERRAL COORDINATOR (IRC)



AXIS Family Mediation Inc. provides government subsidized, court-connected mediation and information services, as well as Mandatory Information Programs (MIPs) in the Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph, Simcoe, Cayuga, Brantford, Welland and St. Catharines Courthouses.

We are currently looking for a motivated, dedicated, enthusiastic individual to immediately join our rapidly growing multidisciplinary team as Information and Referral Coordinator (IRC) in our tri-county locations (Brantford, Simcoe and Cayuga), but also be able to travel to any of our other locations as necessary.

An Information and Referral Coordinator (IRC) is responsible for the delivery of a range of services related to separation and divorce and other family law issues at the Family Law Information Centres (FLICs) located in family courts.

The IRC acts as a bridge between Family Court and the service community, promoting awareness of the FLIC by obtaining information about local services through outreach and liaison with community agencies and works closely with Family Court Staff and Advice Lawyers along with other relevant service providers; the IRC maintains all documents and publications in the FLIC; the IRC provides clients with information on issues related to separation, divorce and child protection matters, offering information about alternative dispute resolution and community resources; the IRC triages on-site mediations at the court, takes off-site mediation referrals, and works closely with our team of mediators; the IRC makes referrals to, administers and facilitates the Mandatory Information Programs (MIPs); the IRC does general and light office administration duties for AXIS such as monthly data collection and user fee collection, and any other such duties that are deemed necessary by the Director of AXIS.

This part-time contract position has a range of 2-5 shifts per week, and shifts are generally 7 hours each. We offer competitive public-sector equivalent remuneration, and paid training will be provided. All shifts are in-person.

Summary of Qualifications:



Social work-related degree or diploma required. Master of Social Work (MSW) an asset; Experience working directly with individuals involved in family breakdown and/or child protection (preferably working in a court setting) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.; Detailed knowledge of options (including family mediation) for resolving family law disputes and their relative advantages and disadvantages (ADR/mediation training and experience an asset); The ideal candidate would also have aspirations to become a family mediator to allow them to work both as an IRC and an on-site mediator; Advanced organization, management, communication skills, outreach and networking skills, and the ability to work under pressure and under strict time constraints; Knowledge of family dynamics, child development and the emotional impact of separation and divorce on adults and children; Detailed knowledge of a broad range of community resources relevant to individuals involved in family law disputes and/or child protection matters; In-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and abuse and the range of community resources available to address issues arising in families where there is abuse; An understanding of the justice system and court process as they relate to individuals involved in family law disputes and/or the child welfare system and a solid knowledge of the provisions of the Child and Family Services Act, Family Law Act, Children's Law Reform Act and the Divorce Act/Family Law Rules; Exceptional computer skills, including all Microsoft Office 365 platforms (with specific proficiency in Word and Excel); Bilingualism, especially in French would be a significant asset; Ability to respond to a flexible work schedule, in multiple locations.

If hired, a Ministry of the Attorney General Security Clearance will be conducted. Further, hire is probationary for 3 months. Upon initial (probationary) hire, documents required to be completed include: Three (3) written references, and Social Work Matrix on prescribed forms, Accessibility Training and Mandatory Information Program Training Completion Certificates (Training will be provided in order to complete these certificates if not already complete).
