The
Industrial Inside Salesperson
is responsible for building strong relationships with customers and suppliers by preparing accurate quotations, processing sales orders, and managing returns in alignment with organizational sales targets. This role works closely with Outside Sales to deliver exceptional customer service, proactively prevent potential issues, and support and monitor ongoing projects.
This position collaborates with key industrial supplier partners, with a primary focus on machine builders, panel shops, system integrators, electrical contractors, EPC firms, and end users. The Industrial Inside Salesperson engages directly with industrial customers to understand their applications and product needs, guiding them toward appropriate product selection and effective solutions.
In addition, the role coordinates with branch staff, supplier partners, and PAC to ensure seamless communication, accurate information flow, and a consistently high standard of customer support. By identifying opportunities, providing up-to-date product information, and recommending effective product mixes, this position supports customer success while maintaining industry knowledge and contributing to overall company goals.
What to expect in the role
Customer Relations
Handles industrial customer inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
Coordinates customer calls and provides front-line sales support to Outside Sales Representatives.
Proactively communicates with customers regarding order status, delivery timelines, backorders, and product alternatives.
Supports customer relationship management by ensuring a high level of service, responsiveness, and professionalism.
Quotations
Prepares, manages, and follows up on industrial RFQs and quotations to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, margin alignment, and timely delivery.
Supports Outside Sales Representatives with pricing, product availability, substitutions, and technical documentation.
Ensures compliance with internal pricing, credit, and margin guidelines.
Identifies cross-sell and upsell opportunities while supporting profitability targets.
Project Management
Supports customer projects and large-scale quotations by coordinating with internal teams and suppliers.
Escalates complex pricing, technical, or supply chain issues as required to ensure project success.
Liaises with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve lead times, availability constraints, and special-order requirements.
Order Management
Processes customer orders, change orders, and order updates across multiple channels with a high degree of accuracy and urgency.
Ensures accurate entry of pricing, delivery dates, freight terms, and customer requirements.
Actively monitors open orders to ensure timely fulfillment and customer communication.
Stock Monitoring
Monitors inventory levels, reports stock shortages, and identifies supply risks.
Suggests new items and stocking adjustments based on customer demand, usage trends, and sales activity.
Works collaboratively with purchasing and warehouse teams to support optimal inventory levels.
Returns (RMA)
Manages the return merchandise authorization (RMA) process in accordance with company policy.
Coordinates with customers, suppliers, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and accurate processing of returns and credits.
Sales Monitoring
Tracks sales activity, open orders, backlog, and pricing performance.
Supports margin management and growth initiatives through data monitoring and reporting.
Identifies trends and opportunities to drive increased revenue and profitability.
Other Tasks
Supports warehouse operations, inventory management, and branch safety initiatives.
Assists with internal process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
Ideal candidate profile
2+ years of industrial electrical sales experience
Wide range of expertise in the industrial products and services provided by E.B. Horsman & Son
3+ years of customer service experience
Intermediate computer skills with proficiency in MS Office & the ability to learn new software programs
Project coordination experience
Basic mathematical skills
Ability to be inclusive, collaborative, and respectful
High school completion
