The purpose of the Indigenous Initiatives Coordinator - Orillia Campus is to organize, manage and co-implement all Indigenous student services, programming and supports at Lakehead University's Orillia Campus. The Coordinator - Orillia Campus will work with all departments at the Lakehead Orillia campus to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging space that fosters success for Indigenous learners. Additionally, the Indigenous Initiatives Coordinator will ensure that Lakehead University (Orillia) is meeting all goals and objectives set under various strategic plans, agreements, and grant programs and will ensure reports to various Ministry offices are accurate and on time.
Responsibilities

Direct Student Support
Collaborate with student groups to implement programming such as Elders in residence, educational campaigns, and guest lectures.
Refer students to Indigenous community resources and ensure accessibility to smudging space.
Engage with students through classroom visits, events, and one-on-one appointments to address needs.
Offer programming under the Niijii Indigenous Mentorship Program and ensure up-to-date training for volunteers.
Orillia Campus Indigenous Initiatives Office
Collaborating with the Manager of Indigenous Initiatives and Maawnjigamig on all Orillia campus activities.
Maintain the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and oversee Indigenous Education and Ceremonial Grounds.
Develop and align the 5-year Indigenous Strategic Plan/Work Plan for the Orillia Campus.
Liaise with the Manager and Vice Provost, Indigenous Initiatives, to report on events, programs, and campus concerns.
Foster relationships with campus departments and ensure events comply with Risk Management policies.
Academic Liaison and Support
Plan and schedule academic activities, tours, and curriculum for schools and on-campus events.
Collaborate with campus staff to support Indigenous programming in the curriculum.
Work with the Director of Student Affairs to ensure Risk Management measures for volunteers.
Community Liaison and Programming
Represent Lakehead University on committees and in the Orillia Campus Community Gardens.
Partner with community groups to ensure a presence on campus and refer students to local services.
Promote Lakehead University and post-secondary education in the Indigenous community through events.
Funding and Reports to Donors
Co-manage program funds and provide budget reports to the Vice Provost of Indigenous Initiatives.
Monitor budget spending and track relevant statistics for NIMP/CLAN Programs.
Write year-end donor reports for approval and identify new funding sources, including drafting grant proposals.
Qualifications
------------------
Undergraduate degree in related field and two years of related experience
Comprehensive understanding of Canadian Indigenous culture, history, and knowledge
Keen interest in Indigenous youth and educational development
Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
Broad knowledge of Ontario Educational Curriculum
Teaching skills
Understanding of public education system
Thorough understanding of undergraduate program offering/student supports at Lakehead
Knowledge of/about Indigenous (First Nation, Metis, Inuit) culture, history, experience, heritage, language and associations
Valid Driver's License and a good driving record
Must be comfortable with public speaking and community engagement
Ability to travel and be away from home for long consecutive periods of time throughout the year.
