The Opportunity
Keyano College's Recruitment & Student Life Department is currently seeking an Indigenous Student Coordinator (Term) to join our dynamic team.
Reporting to the Manager, Domestic Recruitment & Tenant Services, the Indigenous Student Coordinator will oversee the student life cycle of Indigenous learners, beginning with recruitment and ensuring support and retention during their time at Keyano College. They will serve as the College's ambassador, representing Keyano College specifically in Indigenous communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. They will also oversee Indigenous student programming, including the Elder/Aunty/Uncle-in-Residence Program and the Indigenous Student Centre.
The Indigenous Support Coordinator will be required to work both independently and with a team.
This Term role starts as soon as possible and will end on or before September 11, 2026.
Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities
Provides outreach and support services to Indigenous students throughout their educational journey at Keyano College by working closely with Faculty and Non-instructional Faculty to ensure the success of Indigenous students.
Acts as a liaison between students and internal and external support services and resources; assesses and identifies additional needs for each student's circumstances and connects students to the correct departments
Is an advocate for Indigenous students and facilitates a positive, respectful environment for students and staff that is essential to breaking down stigmas and systemic barriers.
Develops resources and tools to increase the success of Indigenous learners in a post-secondary environment; implement innovative initiatives that support the success of Indigenous students
Assists with planning, coordination, promotion and delivery of culturally relevant events and cultural supports to support Indigenous student success
Supporting the Indigenous Student Centre; working alongside Student Life to help foster an inclusive and welcoming space for all Indigenous students on campus
Participate in the delivery of transition, orientation and student life activities.
Effectively market Keyano College to prospective students through the execution of recruitment initiatives directed at various target groups with priority being placed on indigenous learners.
Local, provincial and some inter-provincial travel to attend recruitment events
At recruitment events, provide prospective students with information Keyano College and its programs, admission requirements, relevant deadlines, application and registration procedures, student awards and financial aid including band funding, and other college services that support student success
Act as a bridge between Keyano College and Indigenous communities, fostering respectful and reciprocal relationships.
Establish and maintain connections with Indigenous organizations, Elders, and community leaders.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Indigenous Studies, Business, Education, Social Work)
A minimum of two years of related experience working with Indigenous learners, communities and/or organizations
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities, customs, culture and history
Ability to create and maintain relationships with local Indigenous community members
Strong advisory/assessment skills, excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills,
Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
Nice to Have:
Previous experience working in a student services- or student recruitment related field
Event planning experience
Organized and detail-oriented
Compassionate, empathetic, adaptable, trustworthy
Please note that if your education was received internationally, upon hire we will require you to provide an international education assessment completed through WES, IQAS or one of the other IRCC approved designated organization.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is $5,795.60 per month (CUPE IS7-1) with the following health and benefit package.
Employer paid comprehensive health and dental benefits, including a health spending account.
This position qualifies for additional payment of the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month.
Generous vacation entitlement and the bonus of paid holidays between Christmas and New Years
Life insurance is 2.5 times your annual salary
