Responsible for planning and delivering weekly seminars for students in the Indigenous Enriched Support Program (IESP) for the 2024-25 academic year. The seminars mandatory for IESP students to attend and will cover a range of topics designed to build skills in the areas of reading, writing, and research at the post-secondary level. Additionally responsible for designing activities and workshops that will help students to build upon academic skills and habits.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
Knowledge of indigenous experiences in Canada, particularly in the context of education
Significant cross-cultural awareness and understanding as well as experience in working with diverse populations
Ability to listen and provide non-judgmental support to individuals dealing with challenging situations
Demonstrated excellence in public speaking, producing promotional materials and workshop design
Strong facilitation and communication skills
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication
Excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
Demonstrated excellence in and familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, publishing programs, website maintenance and social media platforms
Ability to work flexible hours according to the needs of the Department of Equity Services as well as ability to work evenings and weekends
Team player with superior interpersonal & problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures and traditions
Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Calls to Action
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
Two year Diploma in Training or Education
Minimum of four years of related experience in facilitation and coordination of Indigenous services initiatives preferably in a higher education environment
