Reporting to Sexual Violence New Brunswick's (SVNB) Director of Strategic Development and SVNB staff as needed, the Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator will engage with community partners and networks province-wide to improve community-based responses to Indigenous survivors of sexual violence.
Using a trauma-informed approach, the Coordinator will work alongside the existing Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator to identify needs, resources, and gaps in supporting Indigenous survivors of sexual violence. Both Coordinators will work collaboratively with other SVNB staff to help meet the needs of Indigenous survivors and communities.
We are seeking someone who brings lived experience, cultural knowledge, and knowledge of gender-based violence. This role is ideal for someone who is connected to Indigenous communities, has demonstrated experience in relationship-building, community development and engagement, facilitation, and advocacy. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous candidates.
This is a fulltime term position ending in March 2027, with possibility of renewal subject to funding, job performance and meeting minimum qualifications.

Duties/Responsibilities
The Indigenous Community Engagement Coordinator will provide leadership in three main strategic areas to address the following key activities:
Strategic Area 1
Community Development
Work with Indigenous communities to identify opportunities to support the development and enhancement of community responses to sexual violence through collaborative relationships.
Actively seek opportunities to collaborate with service providers and networks who support Indigenous survivors of sexual violence.
Coordinate and attend community meetings.
Coordinate the Community Collaboration Grant program.
Collaborate with SVNB's Provincial Team to support existing community based sexual violence services to enhance capacity within their communities.
Facilitate partnerships between Indigenous-led initiatives and non-Indigenous organizations to strengthen collaborative efforts in addressing sexual violence.
Advocate for systemic changes by sharing insights from Indigenous communities with policymakers and stakeholders.
Strategic Area 2
Professional Development and Training
Provide specialized training to Indigenous and non-Indigenous service providers who work with Indigenous people affected by sexual violence.
Assess and respond to training needs in communities.
Create or adapt training materials in collaboration with Indigenous communities to reflect their unique cultural contexts and needs.
Strategic Area 3
Intervention
Work with Indigenous communities to identify opportunities to support the development and enhancement of community responses to sexual violence through collaborative relationships.
Explore intervention and service delivery models.
Actively seek opportunities to collaborate with service providers and networks who support Indigenous survivors of sexual violence.
Assess feasibility and sustainability of these models.
Provide guidance on integrating cultural practices into service delivery models to enhance accessibility for Indigenous survivors.
Collaborate with Indigenous knowledge keepers and service providers to co-develop intervention strategies grounded in traditional knowledge and trauma-informed care.
Collaborate with SVNB's Provincial Team to support existing community based sexual violence services to enhance capacity within their communities.
General Duties:
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, incorporating feedback from Indigenous communities to refine and improve approaches.
Support community organizations and networks and seek opportunities for growth and new initiatives.
Provide ongoing progress reports to funders.
Adhere to the most current SVNB staff policy.
Perform other related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be of Indigenous descent. Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Peskotomuhkati people are especially encouraged to apply.
A degree or diploma in community development, Indigenous studies, social work or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of gender-based violence, particularly sexual violence; feminist principles and a demonstrated commitment to the eradication of gender-based violence.
Knowledge and experience in sexual violence prevention, interventions, education, policy, and research is desired.
Understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community dynamics, including the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and systemic barriers.
Written and spoken competence in English is required; competency in Wolastoqey and Mi'kmaq languages is an asset.
Spoken competence in French is an asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
Commitment to the vision, mission, goals and objectives of SVNB.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, service providers, and government representatives.
Project management skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating initiatives.
Advocacy skills to support Indigenous survivors and raise awareness of their needs within larger systems.
Experience developing and facilitating workshops, trainings, and community discussions in a respectful and engaging manner.
Possesses a current Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check
Possesses a valid driver's license and can travel province wide.

Hours of Work
Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. (37.5 hours per week) Flexibility in this schedule and the availability to travel province-wide will be necessary in response to the initiative's needs and requirements.
Remote work may be considered outside of the Fredericton region.
Renumeration
Annual salary $53,335 - $60,000 plus benefits, depending on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
