The YMCA of Central East Ontario operates out of three major Health, Fitness and Recreation facilities as well as approximately 20 community locations. About the Position:
Reporting to the Manager, Lakefield - Child Care, you will be an integral member of the YMCA of Central East Ontario's childcare team. As an Inclusion Support Educator proficient in American Sign Language, you will provide one-on-one support to a child who is deaf and communicates using ASL. You will be instrumental in fostering an inclusive, welcoming and accessible summer experience that allows all children to thrive. Your role focuses on communication, connection and creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can fully participate. Responsibilities:
Provided one-on-one support for a child who is deaf, ensuring full inclusion in everyday activities
Use American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate effectively with the child and support engagement with peers and educators
Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of the child in all settings (indoor/outdoor, structured/free play)
Collaborate with other educators and team members to adapt activities as needed to support inclusion and participation
Communicate with caregivers, camp staff and supervisors to ensure continuity of support and address any challenges or needs
Promote positive behaviour guidance and inclusion strategies that reflect YMCA values - Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Inclusiveness.
Follow all YMCA policies and procedures related to health, safety and child protection and safeguarding
What you will bring to the position:
Must be fluent in ASL and able to support the child's communication with other children and staff
Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) & Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators an asset or?Diploma in Recreation or Diploma Child and Youth Care
Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act and requirements
Clear Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
Current First Aid and CPR Level C
Up to Date Immunizations
Understanding of inclusive practices and supporting children with diverse needs
Experience:
Experience working with children who communicate using American Sign Language preferred
Working Conditions:
Indoor and Outdoor Environment: Working is performed in both indoor classroom settings and outdoor play areas in various weather conditions
Physical Demands: The role involves physical activity such as walking, standing for extended periods, bending and participating in recreational activities
