About the Position:

This is a full-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations, working 35 hours per week at an hourly rate of $39.15

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the College's mechanical systems are maintained and operating according to specification. The process includes completion of preventative maintenance procedures and equipment repairs including pumps, water systems, plumbing fixtures, heating/cooling components, BAS (Building Automation System) and other related mechanical devices in a multi-building environment.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Monitors the computerized BAS making necessary adjustments and or repairs to ensure that occupants have an environmentally sound and safe comfortable environment. Diagnoses problems, and effects repairs to College mechanical equipment such as chillers, air handling coils, motors, humidifiers, pumps, boilers, shafts, bearings, sheaves, air handling units, control valves, compressors, plumbing systems and fixtures as necessary.
  • Performs scheduled maintenance to mechanical & plumbing systems by adding appropriate lubricants and or chemical additives, changing or washing filters, adjusting or replacing worn belts, in an effort to achieve minimum service interruptions and to maximize operating efficiencies. Guides and advises work study or EBAT students with tasks.
  • Assists in the review and development of new operating procedures or the addition of new equipment to improve the efficiencies of HVAC (heating, ventilating, air conditioning) systems while maintaining an environmentally friendly environment. Reviews and recommends options/suppliers, and pricing/cost estimates for supervisor approval.
  • Monitors HVAC contractor performance and conformance to specified work standards, and adherence to work schedules.
  • Maintains and updates essential records and logs for plumbing inspections and/or any other regulating agency such as TSSA (Technical Standards and Safety Authority).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Trade certification - Journeyperson: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic (maintained in good standing)
  • Minimum of 5 years: Gas Technician I Certification (maintained in good standing)
  • Minimum of 8 years experience working with heating and cooling principles as applied to a typical building environment
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repair of typical plumbing systems
  • Experienced in commercial or institutional setting with computer controlled BAS
